Anyone got top gun yet.

Mine is processing, just wondered if anyone else has it, cause the soundtrack on the dvd was awesome, so high hopes for this. Hopefully take my breath away (haha get it.) Sorry.

Re: Anyone got top gun yet.

Looking forward to this alot, the inital impressions I've seen around the net are for great picture quality and awesome audio. This movie has probably my favourite ever sound track so can't wait to hear that in TrueHD.

No extras though which is a let down from paramount, while extras arn't a huge deal to me though I normally watch a couple, One of the things I've loved about HD-DVD is that nearly every movie has been the complete package, you really feel you have the best in every area. This smells of double dip and thats a shame.

Re: Anyone got top gun yet.

Like you say the extra features are absent, but to be honest i hardly ever watch them, to me the movie is all that counts, hope to have this sometime next week, probably around this time and i cant wait, this is a friday afternoon movie so i can crank it up, all the neighbours are out.

Re: Anyone got top gun yet.

The extras on last years SD re-release were excellent though so its a shame they are absent.

May have to hold on to my SD verison now just for the extras !

I very rarely watch all the extras or listen to the commentries too, but the extras on this occasion were really very good and enticed me into watching them, especially with there being up to date discussions with most of the cast.

Re: Anyone got top gun yet.

I've seen this film so many times I could recount the script start to finish:

"You screw up this much an you'll be flyin' a cargo plane full'a rubber dogsh!t outta' Hong Kong"

I think the HD version has the same DTS ES 6.1 soundtrack that was on the 2 disc DVD special edition, which was awesome.

I hope the transfer is sweet too.

I'd like to see an anniversary edition where they tart up the special effects and change that awful shot when the two planes are flying one above the over.

Kudos

You mean where they are "giving them the bird ... I mean communicating"

beatboy77 over at avsforum.com

mini-review:

Top Gun
PQ - 3.75/5
AQ - 4.25/5
Special Features - 0/5
Overall - 4/5

Comments: Overall this is an improvement over the DVD of this film. The PQ was sharp and colors vibrant. I did notice the occasional blip of EE and film debris. The SQ of this release was very nice. I listened using the TrueHD option. It made excellent use of the Surrounds and LFE. The Center Channel also produced the dialog in a clear and understandable manner. Also this release was free of Special Features it is still a nice improvement over its DVD counterpart.

Papa Smurf deducts half a point just for it being on HD DVD.

Re: Anyone got top gun yet.

nics pics of the dvd case.

So how did the owner get hold of that so soon ?

Are some places dispatching it already ?

I know Movietyme are processing but that doesn't always mean they have them on stock and ready to ship.

Looks like a worthy purchase anyway ... even if no extras !

Re: Anyone got top gun yet.

Just out of interest, how exactly do you rate something as 3.75/5 ??

Do you compare it side by side with something that you consider to be

perfect (5/5) and then decide that the picture quality is 3/4 the quality of

your reference material ??

Regardless of quality, my sister thanks you all for reminding me to remind her

that this is out

Re: Anyone got top gun yet.

I wondered what Academy Award it won.

Best Music, Original Song - Giorgio Moroder (music) and Tom Whitlock (lyrics)
for the song "Take My Breath Away".

also in 1988 Award of the Japanese Academy. It won Best Foreign Language Film !!
