Thumbs up Dutch Filmworks go Hi-Def (Interesting HD DVD & Blu-ray releases)

Not earthshattering news, but Dutch Filmworks have entered the world of Hi-Def by announcing release on both HD DVD & Blu-ray for release in November.

The only reason I post this is as it seems they hold the rights to some titles which are format exclusive in most other places.

On 13th November they will releasing the following titles (among others) on both Blu & HD:

Flyboys
Lord Of War
Reservoir Dogs
Running Scared
Saw III

I pick those titles as they have all been format exclusive so far (Flyboys, Lord Of War, Res Dogs & Saw III on Blu in the US & Running Scared on HD DVD from Germany).

Also looks like The Good Shepherd will get a Blu-ray release there before the end of the year.

A quick look at IMBD shows they hold the rights to quite a few titles inc Evil Dead & Evil Dead 2 (and although not listed on IMDB I have owned Dutch filmworks Romero Zombie Trilogy DVDs, Day & Dawn anyway).

Obviously as imports they would be a little more to get over here, I am sure there could be some titles that may be worth it.

Very interesting, particularly the Romero stuff.

And, of course, they know they'd sell well in America to anyone who's HD DVD-only, or dual format but prefers HD DVD.

I'll certainly be holding off buying the US/UK BDs for a while to see what develops.

I want them on high def, but I've seen them loads of times, so there's no rush.

Thanks for this. I've watched quite a few movies on Sky HD and the two above had particularly excellent PQ, especially the latter.

I hope the discs are a reflection of this.

Can someone please remember to bump this in November so we can find out where's the best priced retailer to buy these?

EDIT: Seems they also have the rights to "Dresden". This was a German made for TV movie which most of you probably haven't seen, but I thought it was excellent. It was shown on More 4 a while back, hope they release it on Blu-Ray too.

Dresden on DVD

Very cool news, Dutch Filmworks have released a number of Italian horror films and much of the Argento back catalogue so this, potentially, could be very interesting.

I already have RUNNING SCARED and recommend it highly, the picture quality is stunning. I will certainly be picking up RESERVOIR DOGS.

http://www.mediadis.com/

This place does titles from France and the Netherlands and does ship to the UK.

They are very slow though at adding pre-order titles to the site so you may have to leave ordering from them until the release date.
