Releases for August
August 7th
Blu-ray Disc
Are We Done Yet? (BD only)
Arlington Road (BD only)
Disturbia (both)
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (BD only)
TMNT (both)
HD DVD
Disturbia (both)
TMNT (both)
COMMENT: Obviously BD's week. However, none of the BD exclusives look like blockbusters, whilst the two dual-format releases are pretty big, and should swamp the other releases.
August 14th
Blu-ray Disc
Bell Witch: The Movie (both)
Doctor Strange (BD only)
The Lookout (BD only)
Vacancy (BD only)
Wild Hogs (BD only)
HD DVD
Bell Witch: The Movie (both)
Dragon's Lair (HD DVD only this week [previously on BD])
Erin Brockovich (HD DVD only)
Meet the Fockers (HD DVD only)
Mercury Rising (HD DVD only)
What Dreams May Come (HD DVD only)
COMMENT: HD DVD's back-catalogue also-rans vs BD's semi-blockbusters. No contest, it's BD's week.
August 21st
Blu-ray Disc
Immortal Beloved (BD only)
The Lives of Others (BD only)
National Lampoon's Van Wilder (BD only)
Perfect Stranger (BD only)
HD DVD
No releases this week.
COMMENT: Adding insult to injury for HD DVD. Despite not being big releases, BD's offerings this week are at least some releaes. Added to any 'hangover' sales from last week's biggies, BD should stretch their lead even further.
August 28th
Blu-ray Disc
Blades of Glory (both)
HD DVD
Blades of Glory (both)
Dawn of the Dead (2004) (HD DVD only)
Heroes: Season One (HD DVD only)
The Hurricane (2000) (HD DVD only)
Notting Hill (HD DVD only)
COMMENT: Clearly HD DVD's week. But it'll be interestig to see just how big the well-received, high-def friendly 'Heroes' is. $100 is a lot of wonga for a TV series.

Re: Releases for August

Re: Releases for August
ARLINGTON ROAD - Great, underrated thriller with superb performances.
THE LOOKOUT - Heard really good things, May get this.
DISTURBIA - Likewise as above.
ERIN BROCKOVICH - Really like this film.
THE HURRICANE - Superb boxing bio-pic with Denzel in fine form!
Some good titles I reckon!
I may get VACANCY and MEET THE FOCKERS too if funds allow.

Re: Releases for August
Can't say there's a great deal released on either format that appeals throughout August. In fact, apart from the UK issue of Starship Troopers on BD (out today), i don't think i'll be picking anything else up until late September. Still, that gives me some much needed time to get a few coffers saved for the Q4 onslaught.

Make it $60. But that is if you buy it with the HD-DVD of Season six of Smallville. Wich is what I'm doing.

Kind of makes Movietyme a better option here. £32.99 for Smallville and £44.99 for Heroes.

I am lucky enough to have a friend over in America that sends me the dvd's without customs or shipping costs. I suppose that does make a difference...

Re: Releases for August
I've now updated the 28th of August releases to take into account the Paramount/Dreamworks announcement.
August 28th
Blu-ray Disc
Not releasing this week.
HD DVD
Blades of Glory(HD DVD only)
Dawn of the Dead (2004) (HD DVD only)
Heroes: Season One (HD DVD only)
The Hurricane (2000) (HD DVD only)
Notting Hill (HD DVD only)
COMMENT: Clearly HD DVD's week. 'Blades...' will be a big seller, and 'Heroes' may well be big, too. In addition, HD DVD will have the benefit of increased consumer confidence. This will be a very, very good week for HD DVD.
