US Blu-Ray cases - very poor quality - 3 all broken

Afternoon all,

Has anyone else had a problem with the inferior quality of US Blu-Ray cases?

I now have 3, Letters from Iwo Jima, Flags of our Fathers and most recently 300.

The first two were bought advertised as "new" from a private Ebay seller and the copy of 300 was from MovieTyme.

All three of them arrived with the centre pins broken that are supposed to hold the disc in place.

They are all manufactured by "Elite" whom I assume are the US standard.

With two of them two of the four pins are broken so they fail to secure the disc, with 300 the leftmost one is broken so it just about holds it in place.

I find it very poor that the cases for all 3 new discs I have purchased so far have had the same fault.

They even look inferior to the standard "Amaray" European cases with no embossed logo, much thinner, and a much lighter shade of blue.

They are basically a far cheaper product.

Anyone else have the same issues?

Ive got both Blu-ray and HD DVD and not had any issues. What annoys me is the difference in width of HD DVD, some are thin like Blu-ray cases, but others are the same as standard DVD cases.

Thanks for the reply.

Do you definitely have US cases, yeah?

How can I be so unlucky as to have 3 of 3 all broken thus far if there is not an inherent quality problem?

Interesting - which titles have you had in thick cases? Or are you mixing which regions you buy from? All US purchases (HD DVD and BluRay) come in 'thin' cases. Most, but not all, of UK purchases come in 'DVD thickness' cases (whether HD DVD or BluRay).

Have to admit I haven't had any issues which any of my cases broken either (almost all are US). I tend to order from Amazon.com who seem to package things quite well.

Ive only just recently purchased the US one and ive removed it once from the case. Maybe theyre just fragile.

The HD DVD titles that came in thin cases are V for Vendetta and Troy, purchased from HMV. The free titles i received from Toshiba (King Kong and Constantine) came in thick cases, as did Batman and Hulk purchased from Play. Still waiting delivery of Matrix Trilogy. I prefer the thin cases and even looked at buying spare cases, but the printed sleeve/inserts arent the same size and id have to trim them .

Just to clarify these cases all arrived in this condition.

When I first opened them there were little bits of blue plastic rattling around inside that used to be the centre pins.

i prefer the thin cases myself, much better than the thick ones, take up less space too.

I received one like that this week, bluray but a thick case with the centre broken.

My blu-ray cases have never been delivered to me broken, but I hate the stickers on the edges of the case. When I have taken them off, they leave an annoying residue on them. Anyone else?

I got my copy of 300 today (took 14 days from dispatch) and the plastic clips holding the disc in place were also broken. It was the Blu-Ray version and the case was made by 'ELITE'. I've sent an e-mail to Movietyme

Matrix Trilogy arrived yesterday, and guess what? All three cases had at least one damaged pin. They were the thin and cheap looking 'ELITE' branded ones.

Re: US Blu-Ray cases - very poor quality - 3 all broken

Yesterday I attempted to but the Starship Troopers BD from HMV. After I left the shop I had a look at it and found the centre was broken with the disc loose. This was very unusual because I always shake the case to make sure the disc is in place before I buy. Went back for a replacement. Shook the cover, no problem. Got out of the shop and checked again, The disc was loose with the centre broken. The centre had been broken when they used the machine to remove the security tag. The act was violent enough to cause the damage. Tried again with their third and last copy, same result.

Went to Vigin and asked them to remove the tag and open it before I paid for it. This one was ok.

It's an Amaray case. Not very impressive.

All the best

My replacement came today from MovieTyme too.

Much better quality than the original US "Ellite" branded case.
