La Haine ' HDDVD any better than the sd ?

Hi,

I absolutely love this film, and recently got the steel sd set at a bargain £8. However I noticed that this is available on HDDVD and was wondering if anybody has it, and if so is there any marked improvement over the sd ? cant seem to find any reviews of the HD. Given that it is in Black and White, I am not sure if its worth double dipping, but may do if someone can confirm the quality is better

many thanks

I 've ony watched part of it as it has bad 3/2 pulldown problems early on. I have the XE1.

I love the film as well, but can't say the HD version is miles better, but I haven't done a side by side comparison so it probably is better.
At AVSFORUM it got 4-4.5 in the picture quality thread, which is pretty good.

The only review I can find is from a french site here (google translated)

I'll certainly be getting this at some point.

featherhall, have you not seen a well mastered black and white movie in HD? It really is glorious. The only disc I own so far is Good Night and Good Luck and it looks fantastic, if La Haine looks anywhere near as good I'll be well happy

I got Casablanca on HDDVD and it is awesome. I'd seriously recommend it if you like the film - a stunning transfer if ever there was one. I think I will order La Haine, so thanks everyone for the info.

Re: La Haine ' HDDVD any better than the sd ?

Sorry I didn't give a fuller reply yesreday but I was in a dash to go work. On the XE1 there's bad video judder during the scene early on where the guy walks past the Police and their vans. I checked it on the X Box and another XE1. The fault played the same on both of these. The problem was far worse on the E1. Optimum say it's not a disc fault but it's down to 3/2 pulldown. so be warned.

All the best
