Coming to America / Trading Places shipped

I got an e-mail from Axelmusic late last night to say they have shipped the two Eddie Murphy HD DVD titles. Apart from 48 Hours, these have to be my favorite silly EM films. I look forward to seeing if the transfers match the even older titles like Smokey and the Bandit that worked well in my eyes.

Re: Coming to America / Trading Places shipped

Well, these two plus Midnight Run and Harsh Times all arrived today.

I watched Trading Places tonight and I am very impressed with the PQ. The only damage I can find is during the opening and closing credits and I am guessing those are because by their nature the credits being manual overlays they will be harder to go back to earlier film stock without redoing the credits.

The rest of the film looks stunning for it's age and the colour and contrast levels are spot on. Film grain is variable but only noticable in dark scenes and open skies. The indoor shots (think the gentleman's club and office scenes) are nice and bright and very modern looking.

Looking forward to Coming to America, maybe tomorrow evening.

Oh, audio ? May as well be mono. There is some presence in the surrounds but I think that is just basic atmosphere via the simple expedient of bleeding some of the centre channel to the others and not any form of genuine remix. Still clear and quite dynamic.

He's saying the HD DVD's better than the Blu Ray.

Re: Coming to America / Trading Places shipped

Cant really see either of these films testing either HD format - but I thought my BR version of CTA was pretty decent and worth £13

Bud i would take alook at the UPC code for that one. I know its in the HD section but the UPC is for the cheaper standard dvd not the HD release.

Re: Coming to America / Trading Places shipped

Bump

Just watched Trading Places and wow

Few dodgy scenes but for the most part it looks uniformly excellent.

If you've only ever seen this on VHS and crappy TV like I have, do yourself a favour.

OK it's not King Kong but as I watched, time after time I would notice things, Pictures on walls, labels with text, furniture around the rooms etc etc that i'd never seen before. What an eye opener.

Fantastic

Re: Coming to America / Trading Places shipped

I'm going to watch this by the weekend, one of my favourite comedies.

Not a HD spectacular but it's good to see some of my favourite 80's movies shown in their best light.
