Frighteners has shipped
My order for Frighteners shipped yesterday. This'll be a triple dip - the first DVD was a US non-anamorphic which I then updated to a later anamorphic DTS issue. Now the HD DVD. Hope it's worth it, I do like the film after all...

www.axelmusic.com - but it takes approx one week to arrive from Belgium/Denmark/Germany (they say it may ship from any of their locations).

Re: Frighteners has shipped
Triple-dip for me too - had this on Laserdisc, then bought the original DVD, which I replaced with the german 4-disc set, and now the HD-DVD.
Never did get round to watching the 4-disc set though!

Re: Frighteners has shipped
Mine has now been shipped from MovieTyme. Wouldn't be surprised to see this turn up tomorrow.

Re: Frighteners has shipped
Just checked mine out & being honest I not as impressed as I was with the new SD-DVD release! Less extras, no dts! I'll be keeping my SD-DVD.

Less extras? How do you figure that? The HD-DVD has the exact same 4-hour documentary and Jackson's commentary + intros. And to my ears the DD+ sound is even better than the dts track on the DVD.
As for the picture, it's very good. It's maybe a tiny bit softer than I would like with some slight edge halos, but there's still a pleasing amount of detail, a fine layer of grain and some solid colours. Good stuff.

Have to agree with Geoff_D here, the HDrelease seems to have most if not all the extras of the 4-Disc SE.
Only difference is this is just the DC of the film and DD+ not DTS.

Re: Frighteners has shipped
I'll be honest: the disc doesn't appear to have the storyboards from the DVD, but I can't remember the last time (if ever) I looked at a DVD cover and thought 'Ooohhhh! Storyboards! Can't wait to look at those!'.
The Frighteners documentary does not suffer from losing them and is still thoroughly engrossing. But if you love the (45 minutes!!) of storyboards enough to ditch the HD-DVD, then fair enough.
Regarding no DTS, if Universal have been true to form then the DD+ track has been encoded at twice the bitrate of the DTS track on the DVD (1.5 mbps vs. 768 kbps), and it sounds like it too.
