Re: Road Warrior & Battle Of The Bulge out on HD-DVD & Blu-ray on May 8th

Watched "ROAD WARRIOR" on HD-DVD last night.

I can confirm that it IS the UNCUT version !

The picture for the most part is very impressive for the age of the movie. The daylight scenes look very good, clean, and vibrant. The night-time scenes fair less well being VERY grainy in places. Overall, this is a good step up from the SD release.

The extras are all good too.

Now... the sound. I was listening via Anlog 5.1 outputs and I found that the centre channel was getting lost in the mix. The voices particularly were VERY low in the mix (distractingly so). Also very little surround use. Disappointed in the sound which was quite poor I thought.

Overall a mixed bag for me.

I forgot how gripping this film was though!

I agree with you. The cover says "ROAD WARRIOR" but the opening credits of the film say "MAD MAX 2".
It was renamed "ROAD WARRIOR" because the original "MAD MAX" was NOT a hit in the US.
So, Warner Bros thought that nobody would pay to see a movie sequel to an original film they had never even heard of before. Hence they renamed it "ROAD WARRIOR" and it was a hit!

Weird but whilst the original "MAD MAX" was a hit in most territories. It didn't make any impact in the U.S. at all. This often happens. Big UK films like "Layer Cake", "Shaun of Dead", "Lock Stock..." etc etc make TONS of money in the UK but relatively little on the worldwide stage.

Oh... and no, it's not dubbed for US audiences. But.... the sound is not that great (especially the dialogue!)
