The Getaway - HD-DVD Review on AVPlay

Chris McEneany reviews The Getaway starring Steve McQueen.

http://avplay.avforums.com/index.php?reviewid=12660

Looks like another great HD-DVD for picture quality. Ashamed to say I have never seen this film nor The Bullitt (reviewed here: http://avplay.avforums.com/index.php?showreview=8763) might have to get these to see what I have been missing.

I watched the HD-DVD t'other night and I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, as I always have done. It ain't perfect, but a 6?? Another excellent review from Chris regardless.

Re: The Getaway - HD-DVD Review on AVPlay

6 seems generous to me.

OK, so it's got McQueen in it, but that's ALL it's got going for it. Everything else about it is very poor. The pacing is a mess. The film is all over the place, constantly deviating from the main plot strand down countless dead ends that add absolutely nothing. The acting from McGraw is the most wooden performance I've seen in a long, long time. She kills the film dead every second she's on screen.

The whole thing is clunkier than a clunky thing from the planet VeryClunkyIndeed and has aged REALLY badly.

I'd have given it a 5.

+1 for Steve McQueen of course

Having rented the film on SD a month or so back (as I'd never seen it before) I agree that it's not the best of films, but still good enough for an HD purchase for me.
