It's good to know that I can be bored to tears in high definition.

I like Lost in Translation. To me it was not boring, just less action. Still, I don't see much advantage by the high definition.

As for the HD aspect - I actually have this in HD as .ts files that I stream from my mac to my 360 via media center.
It's beautiful in HD. There is so much neon in this film, so many wide shots - it's my favourite HD movie for showing what HD can do.
I'll definately be buying it when it arrives in May.

I don't mind a lack of action and I usually like Bill Murray, but for some reason I just couldn't get on with this film. I kept watching expecting it to improve but it just didn't for me.

There never seems to be much middle ground.
Very much like Adam Sandler's "Punch Drunk Love".
All down to personal tastes, would be a boring world if we were all the same.. |

When this came out on dvd, I still never wanted to watch it (dodged it at the cinema), but got forced to watch it when my girlfriend at the time bought it.
I absolutely loved it to bits. Indeed when we parted ways, I bought it for myself and will definitely buy the HDDVD, as it should look stunning.
Scarlett was simply brilliant in this film, and Sofie Copolla deserved all the accolades that went her way. 8/10 for me all the way.

The soundtrack in this film was a big plus point for me; it should be stunning in DD+ or TrueHD.

I managed to sit down and watch this earlier today and I was pleasantly surprised with the results. Colours are nice and vibrant really jump off the screen, particularly during the outdoor scenes in Tokyo and there's a good level of depth and detail making the image very easy on the eyes. Some of the darker interior scenes don't fair so well suffering from quite a bit of noise....but I suppose that's expected considering the film's very low budget!?
Overall, Lost In Translation on HD-DVD looks remarkably good and offers a definite improvement over the SD-DVD imo. As far as the audio goes - pass. Sounded good enough through my 9 year old Sony 5.1 amp.
As for the film itself, what's to say? Some people love it, some people find it a tedious bore. Personally, I adore it and it sits comfortably in my top 10 films of all time...and despite having seen it numerous times over the past four years, it still breaks my heart today. Utterly magnificent. For relaxing times, make it Suntory time.

Cheers, Jim. I loved it too, but don't have the HD DVD yet. Have you seen Broken Flowers?

I have Steve and what a delightful film too...quite similar to LIT in terms of style, tone and subject matter...and another beautifully understated, Oscar worthy performance from Bill Murray.
What did you think of it?
Incidentally, you can pick Broken Flowers up on SD-DVD for just £2.99 from Play (Plus a little bit of cash back if you go through Quidco). http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/86682...s/Product.html

Me Julie bought me the DVD when she saw it going cheap, and a few weeks later it cropped up on Sky in High Def. I hope it gets a HD DVD and/or Blu-ray Disc release.
One of my favourite films of the last few years - not completely unlike The Swimmer.
