Re: Star Wars on HD ?

Star Wars is distributed by Fox so is likely to appear on BluRay - odds are however it will be years before we see it so who knows where studio support will be by then - or even whether it's still an issue given the likely dominance of dual format players by then...

The packaging match's the Extended Editions so assume what you will from that.

I'll be surprised if we get the Extended Editions first...I'm sure they'll go through the standard theatrical release, followed by extended edition re-release, followed by uber boxset release. But you never know I suppose

I suspect we may well see these titles 2007 Q4 - we know they are being prepared (Warner stated so at CES) so hopefully it'll be the killer title this Christmas

Re: Star Wars on HD ?

I read on the AVS site that they will not be the extended versions. There was a big thread about it, and people were a bit annoyed.

I can sort of see why people are a little annoyed. These new formats are supposed to be an extension of DVD, i.e. something better. They should offer what is available on DVD now plus more. So for Lord Of The Rings why can't we have both theatrical and extended versions on the HD DVD with seemless branching? It's possible and supported by the format. The same goes for so many other films already out there: Terminator 2 for example - why not have the extended cut as an option?

Obviously it is sound business sense for these companies to encourage us to double dip again and again. But considering they are trying to make customers remove the DVD versions from my shelf and replace with a high def version it's not an amazing sales pitch.

Funny you should mention that as I have seen the Blu-Ray release of T2 advertised as featuring both the theatrical and extended editions, I assume this is incorrect?

Re: Star Wars on HD ?

I double dipped on dvd for the LOTR movies, I am NOT going to for HD DVD. I'll wait for the extended editions. Also, that pic of the three cases is a mock-up a fan has done, Amazon are using it for illustrative purposes.

After seeing the extended editions, the regular ones are rendered completely and utterly pointless.

Where have you seen this?
I've only seen the theactrical version on my copy, for the extended cut didn't we used to input 082997 on the DVD ?
