Only a few days to go for Oz HD DVD release of Rambo and Total Recall

Relevant links:
http://hddvdformat.blogspot.com/2007...al-hd-dvd.html
http://www.dvdcrave.com/
http://www.ezydvd.com.au/
These two Oz sites look to be the cheapest incl. P&P. I haven't used them before, so any relevant feedback from people who have would be welcome.

I've bought stuff from both, although it's been a couple of years since I've gotten anything from either of them.
Good experience with both, goods arrived in a week or so, if I recollect correctly.

Apparantly the French HD DVD Rambo is really bad quality (vhs), i'm dual format so will pick up the blu ray version as its been reported to be very good.

Re: Only a few days to go for Oz HD DVD release of Rambo and Total Recall

One thing to note is that although the Oz release of these films is through Universal Australia, there's a Studio Canal label on the covers of these discs (visible at EzyDVD), implying that these are the Studio Canal transfers of these films.
Price-wise it seems then that we can do a direct comparison with the French online retailers. The Oz ones come out cheaper.

DVDCrave = AUS$34.95 (excl. GST) + AUS$4.50 P&P = AUS$39.45 / UK£15.54 (at today's forex rate).
FNAC = EU€25 + EU€8 P&P = EU€33 / UK£21.75 (at today's forex rate).

I used https://www.currenciesdirect.com/ for the Forex rates.

On a completely different note and if these are indeed the SC transfers, will Total Recall also have the high-pitched audio as AVS noted about the French release.

And with the rumours that Lions Gate is switching to authoring in VC1, an interesting one will be to see how the LG transfers compare with the SC transfers. Or would it be one and the same transfer?

I assume they will be the Studio Canal releases, so are likely to suffer the same issue. Will know shortly as I'm getting these ones over the French ones (much prefer the Australian Rambo covers )

Rambo on Blu Ray is supposed to be an AVC release. According to those that have seen it over on AVS, its quite a bit better than the French Studio C release.

Re: Only a few days to go for Oz HD DVD release of Rambo and Total Recall

I have the three films (French) and (as per previous thread) confirm that the quality is indeed very high. The AV review of Rambo 3 confirms this if you are in any doubt. http://avplay.avforums.com/index.php?reviewid=12605

First Blood - Very good transfer (apart from the forest fight)
Rambo : First Blood Part 2 is an absolutely awesome transfer. Best of the 3
Rambo 3 - again, excellent transfer, in particular the desert scenes.

If they are improved upon I will be very curious. I dont regret buying them in the slightest .

Re: Only a few days to go for Oz HD DVD release of Rambo and Total Recall

On more general note re Studio Canal releases, I have The Elephant Man and King Kong (1976) and I think they have excellent pictures. Total recall is on route and I think I will add Rambo 1 (?) and Basic Instinct tonight judging by what I have seen so far. These releases look brilliant for their age and someone has made them look lovely. This is a 'studio' to watch for the future....
