Fox announced the first Predator film for release in the US in May (but no definitive date yet). As all the films are owned by Fox, they will all be Blu Ray exclusive.

Re: alien/predator films on HD-DVD or blu-ray?

I think Fox stated that Alien would be a candidate for BluRay release later this year. However as for Aliens or Alien 3 both apparently require significant work before they could be considered for release. Given that Fox are doing little other than recycling their D-VHS lineup so far I wouldn't hold your breath.

Going a little OT it does make me - these new formats are supposed to be a step up from DVD. Well for the Alien saga the last release we saw was the all singing all dancing "Alien Quadrilogy" boxset. Surely we should be looking for something similar for the first high def release? Rather than half hearted, singleton, theatrical cut only releases?

From what people have said about Alien on DTheater it should look fantastic as it is. Aliens may never look good due to bad Kodac film stock but Alien 3 should looks fantastic. Weren't all the Quadrilogy the Directors cuts using seamless branching?

Yes they were - and it resulted in lip sync problems on many players But it would be good if, instead of going 'back to basics' and releasing standalone theatrical cuts, they would release (e.g.) a 10 discs high def quadrilogy boxset with theatrical and extended editions. Fat chance though given Aliens and Alien 3 would require substantial work before they appear on high def release

...the point goes beyond the Alien saga though. It would be good to see decent LOTR and Matrix boxsets rather than the (inevitable?) theatrical standalones we are likely to see. Again fat chance
