I think you have misunderstood my question.

I'm aware that the 2 I mentioned are available (in fact I own them both) , I'm looking for anything similar coming soon.

Thumbs up Re: French Horror

hi Shoka,

I'd highly recommend "Inside" with Beatrice Dalle (from Betty Blue), which has one of the most disturbing shock scenes in it, I've ever witnessed, even in comparison to banned material! Plus, the most brilliant surprise ending too!

There's a 60-minute documentary to accompany the movie, as an extra, and a trailer. (In French with English subs, for the doc!) The film is already out on Region 2 DVD, and you should be able to get it for less than a tenner, even in hifh street stores. Just be warned, it's genuinely twisted stuff, and don't watch if you can't handle some very grim violence perpetrated by women against other men and women!

You may also want to investigate "Them" (aka "Ils"), which is on Channel 4 later next week, very late one night.

I've got Them (Ils) on Blu-ray, its such a great film, although I thought the last 15 minutes felt a bit rushed, I would have happily waited another 15 minutes for it to end.

I got this when it first came out (albeit only on DVD), and only got round to watching it a few months ago on the plane going on holiday, I'm not sure if it was because I watched it about 2 in the morning and was feeling sleepy but I didn't think it was brilliant. I might have to give it another spin.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Exclamation Re: French Horror

Hi Shoka,

I have to agree with you r.e. MARTYRS. It's just not that great a film! It's gory, and violent, and very strong in comparison with most 18-rated films, but it's also rather pointless, with a rather average plot, and the film goes nowhere, leaving you at the end of the 90 minute running time, asking yourself "Yeah... And?!" in a kind of sarcastic tone.

It's not French, but you should absolutely get DEAD SNOW, which is a recent Swedish horror film, about some medical students who are attacked by nazi-zombies! It's truly gross, with some jaw-dropping special effects, and the film has an amazing dark tone of humour running through it! I can't recommend it enough. (Available on UK DVD or Blu-Ray, which are identical, except for the sound format and picture quality improvements on Blu-Ray.)

And, if you fancy something slightly more haunting, rather than horrific, you also want to investigate LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, which is good too!

Re: French Horror

As people have mentioned the best ones currently available I'd thought I'd mention one coming soon. It's not due until next spring, but there's a new French horror film called Captifs (aka Caged) coming out. Hopefully it will be good.

I'm also waiting for a DVD release of David Morlet's Mutants and Jacques-Olivier Molon's Humains.
