Play.com delivery?

I dunno if this is in the right place (mods feel free to relocate if need be)

I'm not 'having a go' at Play.com

I have been using Play.com on since 2001, never had a problem and maybe have bougth 50+ DVD's.
In the past when I place an order it gets processed and dispatched within 24hrs (sometimes the same day)
Now I havn't bought anything off them in a couple of years and recently got a bluray player and decided to buy some bluray movies from Play

I placed an order tuesday (1st sept) my credit card was debited wendsday (2nd sept) yet my order details still say 'status=packing' 4 days after placing my order

On their site it says that credit cards arn't debited until day the items are dispatched so going by that they 'should' have been posted on tuesday (2nd sept)? Not to mention they quote quite aften 'In stock | Usually dispatched within 24 hours'

As I said I've used Play loads of times before and never seen this, surely it doesn't take a week to stick a disc in a jiffybag

I have 'tried' to ring 3 times today but just get a recored message saying this service isn't available at this time

Re: Play.com delivery?

What did you order? I have used play lots over the years and they aren't great on delivery these days. They're not too bad with preorders or expensive items but everyday orders of discs do have a fairly long turnaround. I guess they're just a victim of their own success - I cancelled an order the other day as I forgot to use quidco, and my order number 4 minutes later suggested there had been 400 orders in that time period so you can imagine the volume they must get.

I wish they offered delivery options as I'd happily pay extra for faster delivery from time to time, if not more often. I sometimes see a bargain and think it'd be great to watch/play that at the weekend but don't bother in the end as I know I won't get it in time.

Re: Play.com delivery?

Have to agree - service from Play seems 'erratic' at best.
Been a customer for longer than I care to think (2000, prob)- disks used to arrive in a day or so (three, tops). Been waiting for Highlander Blu-ray for two weeks, as of today.

If it doesn't appear, I'll need to steer clear in the future - bit of a shame, really.

Re: Play.com delivery?

I'd say two weeks is not the norm, that is a shame and I'd chase them up - they usually answer quick on the phone and are generally helpful. Just mention Amazon and they'll soon send it out LOL.

I remember the days of 2-3 day delivery which is usually 3-5+ these days. I've had preorders a few days early though and I ordered a Harmony remote which was shipped by courier next day.

Scarily, PlayTrade is normally a lot quicker.

It is a pain but I figure I have plenty to watch with Sky HD and lovefilm and pre-order must haves so most things I buy from play are down to price in which case I don't mind waiting a few days. I really think they should improve their delivery or provide different delivery services for a cost as Amazon does.

Re: Play.com delivery?

I tried ringing again (5th time today now) still no answer so that means there is NO WAY of contacting them!!!!!!!!!!

That can't be legal?

Re: Play.com delivery?

I had the same problem with them. They have been "packing" a dvd, that was on stock and would dispatch within 24h, since Tuesday apparently. Unlike you, contacting them has been pretty easy as I didn't have to wait on the line at all. This is the response I got " Some items have moved to a new warehouse and as result the system is not properly updated at the moment. This could mean that my order has in fact dispatched. If it does not arrive by September 22nd I would be able to get a refund. "
Go figure...
