Defective/ Flawed Bluray discs

I am hoping to hear from fellow members in order to compile a list of defective Bluray discs for the UK/Ireland (Region B). I purchased 'The Reader' last week and to my disappointment have found out it is encoded in 1080i, not the correct 1080p. In its raw 1080i state, jaggies and other motion artifacts can be visible even though after being upconverted either through a Bluray player and/or an HD monitor, the image may exhibit little discernible difference between 1080i and 1080p.
Still, I feel after shelling out 25 euros I should be getting the best transfer possible. Warner Brothers in the US made the same mistake with the initial pressing of Terminator 3 when it was released stateside in 2007~ and they immediately admitted the bloober, fixed it on the next pressing and offered an exchange program.
The main culprit seems to be EIV (Entertainment In Video). I have several Blurays by them and after checking them all have also found 'Bangkok Dangerous' to be 1080i, not 1080p. Also, the back of their cases always state "Full HD, 1080P"...
anyway hope nobody thinks I'm being too picky!!...now that I am building my Bluray collection I just want to have the best picture quality possible so I don't have to replace the disc again...well I guess until the next generation of 4k transfers (UltraHD??) comes along :-)

Have been informed that Saw2 and Zack And Miri Make A Porno also 1080i, not 1080p....both also released by EIV (Entertainment In Video)....

With Matter of Load and Death it was actually filmed at 25fps so that is normal. It is probably the same for Stephen Fry.

The Canadian version of Se7en is also 1080i/60 due to being taken from a HDTV source.

Thx for feedback...I read many titles released in Canada have been 1080i while south of the border in the US the same titles getting a 1080p release- strange!

Can you imagine these with 1080i transfers?I fear the worst.

I have been trying to find a phone # or contact email address for EIV but have been unable to find it- if anyone finds it let me know and I will contact them....and by the way, the initial LOTR trilogy is the Theatrical version only...so perhaps we'll get the trilogy in 1080i/Theatrical format followed by the Extended trilogy in 1080i...then the Theatrical in 1080p, then the Extended versions in 1080p....shortly followed by the 4K Ultra HD versions...phew!!

Yes, they did the DVD's so I would assume they would do the BD's. On a plus, any DVD's they did where there was a R1 Infinifilm version have been the same in terms of picture and extras. The UK Final Destination is the same as the US BD. So, as the R2 LOTR DVD is the same as the R1's, I bet they will be the same on BD.

I don't want to go off track from highlighting blurays with an inferior 1080i transfer instead of a 1080p one but I am hearing Lionsgate 'The Spirit' also has problems if you happen to have your player connected to the internet and you do the update when prompted after initially loading the disc...thread is on amazon co uk...apparently the update makes the disc unplayable the next time you load it up if you have done the update prior....anyway just highlighting this as Lionsgate released 'Bangkok Dangerous'...which was in turn released in UK/Ireland by EIV...and that reminds me, Lionsgate also released Saw 2 in the US which was released in the UK in 1080i by EIV...and also Lionsgate in the US had a major blooper with Stargate (original film w/Kurt Russell) when they forgot to include the forced subtitles...so Lionsgate/ EIV (Entertainment In Video) seem to be really sloppy.

Just popped in the EIV version of 'The Reader' into my bluray player again and noticed the main EIV intro logo is in 1080p, but then the feature, as previously mentioned is incorrectly in 1080i...I'm wondering now why EIV would release a movie in 1080i rather than 1080p..is it a cost issue or simply a mistake?

Never new about these inferior UK Blu's untill today,
Apparently Elf is another one 1080i(US 1080p) along
with Saw 1&2,Zack & Miri.Also No HD sound on Death
Sentence,The Woman and Bangkok Dangerous.Not got
these myself so cant confirm just passing on what I have
just read elsewere.Notice EIV released Underworld 1-3 are these
1080p? I wonder.I got the first one from US for superior audio
now I know whyShoot Em Up is 1080p though

In the UK, yes its EIV, but only in the UK. Best bet is to hope for a region free release from New Line in America.

I watched Zack and Miri and I have to say the picture was excellent. The player outputed it as 1080p/50 as there was only a second or two of juddering.
