Robocop (2014)

MGM have stated Robocop will be back, but at a time where studios are making watered down films for family audiences, will they have the steel balls to duplicate what Verhoeven did with the first film. Robocop demands a 18, like Rambo. Whether Weller will be back is another thing, i think maybe a cameo, he's getting on a bit, last seen in 24 with Bauer.

Others will say do we need another sequel or remake, where fresh ideas are few in Hollywood, and looking at the list below, only The Hobbit stands tall
Me, i say get the WD40 out, oil the tin-man, put him back on the streets of Detroit and go get some bad guys.

Quote:
With the appointment of Parent, MGM will enter its new phase of evolution by focusing on its major movie franchises highlighted by JAMES BOND and PINK PANTHER sequels, THE HOBBIT, THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR 2, THE OUTER LIMITS, ROBOCOP, DEATH WISH and FAME, among others.

re: Robocop (2014)

I do think there is the potential for a decent Robocop film (could we also have some kind of tranquelisor to forget the rubbish Robocop 3) as long as it is done correctly. I loved Robocop and whilst it wasn't as good (lets face it the first was a masterpiece) Robocop 2 was a good film.

I am not sure how they could top the first two. Part of me thinks they should let the franchise die with the dignity of the first two in tack but part of me really wants to see Murphy one more time (even if the original actor just does a voice over) as the "actor" they had last time wasn't a patch on the original Murphy.

re: Robocop (2014)

I always remember reading online about 4 years ago IIRC an interview with both Verhoeven and Weller. One question was asked about a Robocop sequel and the response was that both of them were up for doing an 'official' sequel totally disregarding Robocop 2, but then nothing more was ever said

I am only interested in this if -

* Verehoeven directs
* Weller is Robocop
* It's an 18 certificate

Family friendly Robocop,what a completely CRAP idea.Weller was robocop,and the ultraviolence was what made it so much fun,in a satirical way of course

"you have twenty seconds to comply..."

God I love Robocop (forget 2 and 3 - they were BAD), not sure if a sequel/remake is required though. Some of the special FX have dated (ED209) but it still stands as a great movie, and more intelligent than a lot of people would give it credit for.

Is the movie industry so stuck for ideas that remakes, and film versions of comics/cartoons are the only things they can do now?

Well they wont be able to sell Robocop guns, not unless they are made out of bright orange plastic with the words "this is not a gun" in big letters on the side.

1, and 2 are great... you can be sure that this one will be a CGI attempt, and I think that the first two were mostly models and stop motion.

re: Robocop (2014)

Anyone else think that Robocop is still one THE most violent films ever made? I put it alongside Goodfellas.

What you ask? Have I seen Rambo or Kill Bill Vol 1?

Yes I have. But those two films did not shock me. There is something about Robocop and Goodfellas.

Oh yeah, One false move (1991) shocks me.

Hmmm...I think I shall start a thread on this.

Sorry.

robocop merchandise would sell very quick. kids and adults alike..

but i do hope that if they do a new movie it is a 18 - a watered down robocop doesnt work (they tried it with terminator didnt they? wasnt that a 12 i may be wrong)

If a new Robocop is made it will be a PG-13 with Robo shooting the guns out the hands of bad guys.

What a joke.

re: Robocop (2014)

Can't say I'm too excited at the prospect of a 4th Robomovie. I love Verhoeven's original but the other films - including the TV movies - have all been sub-par.

Okay, #2 has some interesting stuff in it and retains a harder edge due to what's left of Frank Miller's screenplay after the studio hacks got through with it - plus it has fantastic stop-motion from Phil Tippett - but the rot really set in with #3 which was then aimed at a wider, more family based audience, resulting in a watered down poor relation of the original ideas and concept. Even Fred Dekker dislikes it...and he directed the damn thing!

Personally, I can only see this 4th instalment being something along the lines of the third movie and that is a shame.

Talking re: Robocop (2014)

Hi,

Don't forget that RoboCop has already made a 4th appearance, in the US TV mini-series "RoboCop: Prime Directives", which were four 90-minute US made-for-TV cable films.

Admittedly, they were a little grittier, but still not as good as they should have been.

Still we could always have "RoboMop: The Future Of Floor Enforcement" instead! Maybe he could clean-up some of the crummy scripts, actors, writers and directors from Hollywood?!

Re: Robocop - Remake (2010...)

Ahh nooo!

I watched this just the other night and it gets better all the time.

I doubt if a new version could match the sort of corniness and dark humour, IMO. Although I see where you're coming from with the effects

Bit soon though, to be doing a remake surely????????

Re: Robocop - Remake (2010...)

This remake has the advantage that the lead actor is hardly ever fully visible, and has few lines, so replacing the actor is not difficult. I think that this remake definitely has the potential to be a better movie than the original. But is it a remake, or just Robocop 4 / 5?

Re: Robocop - Remake (2010...)

Of all the recent hyperbole about remakes,i've gotta say this remake is a BAD idea.

The original is an iconic film and will never be bettered.

But,i can hear the ker-ching already.

No-one will better Peter Weller in the lead role,no-one.

Clarence Boddicker(one of the great villains in cinema)can't think of anybody else playing him other than Kurtwood Smith.(If there gonna use that character of course).

Re: Robocop - Remake (2010...)

well this is one remake which i think could work

im not saying its gonna be a cult classic like the original robocop (which was amazing - must purchase again actually.. is it out on hd?)

as mentioned before, the man behind the mask is not seen so anyone could play the lead - unless they are doing a complete rehash of the story (i hope they are not doing that )

as with most action films though the key is the villian - all of the top action movies have had fantastic bad guys so without a great bad guy this film may not work. (unless they go with a rogue robot like with the previous robocop movie- i remember the special effects being amazing in that film - really need to see how its aged.)
