I thought Fargo was brilliant... and very funny.

William H. Macy is just incredible in it. Especially the scene with the cop in the car dealership.

I think this is one of the best movies ever made. I didn't know it would be out on DVD soon. I'm delighted.

Class film, as is anything by the Coens.
My personal fav bit is where Macy loses it while scraping the ice off his car before checking to see if anyone was looking.
I've had the R1 for ages - didn't realise there was an SE on the way. I'll check it out.

Very true! Perhaps a few fart & poo gags would have broadened it's appeal to include a few of this threads contributors?

It's a great film, although it is pretty slow.

The interview with the two slappers in the bar is pretty funny, I'd say. Didn't what's-her-name who played the cop win an oscar for that film?

I watched 'The Man Who Wasn't There' recently, and thoroughly enjoyed that, too. It's particularly slow, but for some reason you just get drawn into it: a classic Coen brothers film.

I guess films don't have to be 'pacey' to be good...

Ah, that's that gap in my knowledge filled.

I love all sorts of films, but I never remember the names of any actors or actresses. I only occasionally remember the names of directors.

My girlfriend, on the other hand, can reel off hours of information about anyone that you care to point out in a film, with all the details of their career, political views, medical history and romantic attachments. It's really quite baffling to me. Perhaps it's all those glossy gossip magazines she insists on buying. They don't even make good spoils for the fire...

Frances McDormand, yeah.

I must confess that I don't usually "get" Coen brothers' films. Barton Fink left me very cold indeed - except for the Chandleresque cops, I liked them - and I can't have laughed more than half a dozen times throughout the whole of The Big Lebowski; but Fargo, I think, is a masterpiece. I thought the ending was a little too violent, but given that it was based on a true story I guess they couldn't mess with it too much.

Come to think of it, I did actually laugh a lot during O brother where art thou? More enjoyably silly than some of their other stuff.

I had a feeling you would think so!
Still if the Coen Bros are not your thing, there's always the Farrelly Bros....

Totally agree with you on that - a brilliant film, slow but utterly absorbing.

My missus fell asleep during it tho
