Brokeback Mountain - A disappointment

After all the coverage that this film as received I was looking forward to finally watching it at the weekend.

What a disappointment, I found the film boring and as such too long. Yes the acting was top notch, but I didn't feel any empathy for the characters and the secret lives they had to leave. Ang Lee's directing was good and he deserved his Oscar however having now seen both the main contenders for the Best Picture Oscar I'm convinced it went to the right film, Crash.

Thanks for that.I was debating whether to get it,and your opinion reflects what others who know my likes and dislikes are telling me.
I thought Crash was awesome though, and was pleased it won.

I keep going into my local video shop and walking past Brokeback Mountain!!

I have heard too many people say its slow and boring, and just couldn't be bothered to rent it.

Maybe some day I'll be in the mood.

I watched it this last weekend and thought it was excellent!
One of the few films that accurately portrays life in bigotted rural middle America in the 60's. (Hasn't changed much there though.)
I was expecting it to be rubbish after reading negative reviews but thought it was very good indeed.
Must be me 'going against the trend' as usual!

PS: Good picture quality and the mountains looked fabulous.

I loved this film. One of the few films I have watched recently that I am not ashamed to say that left me with a frog in my throat. The fact that it portrayed homosexuals shouldn't really be an issue, and although I pesonally felt a bit uncomfortable watching the sex scenes I thought it was a great achievement and an advance for the gay community in achieving parity with straight people in terms of media potrayal.

Agreed. Ang Lee has done a fantastic job. I thought Heat Ledger was especially good. Whilst Crash was also superb, I think Brokeback Mountain was a far better, more powerful movie.

Ride em Cowboy

Ive heard they are doing a sequel to this, starring Clint Eastwood, No, not really, just seems that nothing is beyond the reach and influence of this sort of thing.
Do you really think this would have been acceptable behaviour in the days of the old wild west? or that Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef would have indulged in a bit of tonsil tennis before having a "shootout"! lol

Brings a whole new meaning to the phrase, "Ride em cowboy"!!!!!

i'm a little confused, the acting was top notch and the direction was good, yet you felt no empathy for the characters and didn't like the film? do you prefer films with bad acting and ham fisted direction? allow me to point you in the direction of Paul W S Anderson ...
