I dozed off a bit too (but only because I was knackered from work):

they get so wound up trying to cover all the variables (which proves impossible) of the guy going to the party with the gun that they become a bit unhinged and end up going back to sabotage themselves building the machines in the first place. Or something.

I loved Primer. Very original to a point. Considering he made the film for $7000, I think it looks great.

It was more a "feel" movie for me. Much the way Mullholland Dr was.
I've only seen it once, but think it will make sense on repeated viewings.
Like Mullholland Dr did for me.

A timeline is here

May help.

Now,
I watched this last night. It has some very good ideas, and I ma all for a movie which makes you think, but it really could have done with a little more explaniation of events. Its alsmost as if the film makers themselves lost thier way and gave up with the story. I just did not get the end at all.

If you check it out on IMDB there's a good few attempts at trying to explain.....worth a read with some strong coffee...!

I really liked Primer but It did need another viewing to really get it.

there is a really good explanation of the film on Wikipedia here:
