Irreversible

Have any members seen this, and if so what do you think. I have seen it only once cant get myself to watchit again, found it a brilliant film one of a kind in the way its told and structured. However some of the violence is sickening, its a film that should be seen, but you need a strong stomach.

I watched it once ... I'm glad that I only rented it and didn't buy it. It was pretty disturbing from the outset (note that I didn't say the beginning ).

I couldn't believe the violence in it. It all seemed really real.

It took me weeks to get over watching it - but part of that could be because it caught me by surprise ... I didn't have a clue as to what the film was about before watching it.

Ive seen it. very graphical & explicit. Overall this kind of adds to the realism of the film? i agree that some of the violent scenes did have a very real 'feel' to them. Definately a see at least once film. If you can handle very graphical violent & sex scenes. Arne't movies supposed to leave you feeling something though. And i suppose shock (realer shock than i know what you did last summer!), is just another way of pulling us in, or putting us off?... I havent watched it again since the first time though. so i dont know what that says..

Another strike in the column marked "Seen it once, Glad I've done so".

I own two versions of this as I'm a huge Monica Bellucci Fan, and a completist(at times). I'm not entirely sure that I want to watch it again though.

Bah, it was just exploitation and nothing else, not the artistic stuff people say it is.

Re: Irreversible

Dredging up this old thread coz I just watched it last night.

Total rubbish.

Couple of very violent scenes but so what ? Very poor storyline, no character development, awful camerawork.

The only novelty was it's being shown in reverse, but Memento did it a thousand times better...

Re: Irreversible

i agree momento is far better but this is a seriously gritty film! I can watch just about anything but the violence in this (fire extinguisher in particular) is hard to stomach.

got to love Monica Bellucci though.

Only other film that made me squirm in my seat - some of the scenes from saw2.

Re: Irreversible

If you "liked" this film you should try The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things, I found it much harder to watch, and if you have children of your own (or any empathy at all) its especially heart rending.

Re: Irreversible

HI,

The thing with "Irreversible" is that, on your initial viewing, most people don't tend to like it or "get it". I know I didn't when I first saw it.

However, on my second viewing, I did finally "get it", and the film somehow seems much better when you've got your head around what's going on.

Maybe those of you who have only seen it once, should try watching it once more. It worked for me.

Life's too short, Pooch...

On thing I was slightly puzzled by...

Possible spoiler -

During the rape scene, a guy wandered into the tunnel in the background, stayed for a few seconds, then walked back out...

What was that about

It's one of those things that marks our society today. Something horrific is happening but it's not to me or mine, and so don't get involved.

If you saw it happening could you hand on heart say that you would intervene?

I honestly don't know if I could. I'd like to think that I have enough character and decency to do something, but I don't know.

Yes, I'm pretty sure I'd intervene... or at least raise the alarm...

Re: Irreversible

I saw this a few weeks ago, and raised a thread on it. I found the violence extremely realistic, but the camera work made much of it unwatchable. A pointless movie, with a lot of padding in between the two main 'events'. I wouldn't watch it again, and if anyone wants to offer me a fiver plus postage - it's yours. Otherwise I will be putting it on eBay.
