1999, The Matrix (also from the Trafford Centre, WHS) and I thought there was something wrong with the DVD player as there was a lot of green in it

Tomorrow Never Dies was the first DVD I bought, which I paid £24.99 from Virgin about 10 minutes after spending £450 on my old Pioneer DV-505 dvd player

And after coming from laserdisc, I thought £24.99 was cheap

So true, i still shake my head when people say £15.99 is too expensive for a DVD, try £50 a pop on LD when new!

Walking with Dinosaurs, must be 5 or 6 years ago and it remains my favourite TV programme of recent years. Bought it the same day I got my Toshiba 100e - still in use but relegated to the bedroom.

Fargo Region2 for 22.99 at the same as buying my panasonic A350 for.....£599! This must have been 1998.

Not bad considering I haggled them down from £750!

And the multiregion chip cost me £150 and had to be imported from the Netherlands...adn I had to fit it myself

And the player still works perfectly!

i bought my panasonic A100 and "Unforfiven" on the same day. there were only about 10 films to choose from! as for how long ago, i'm not sure if it was '98 or '97, maybe someone else remembers better when all this happened?
i too had to fit the mod chip myself, bought from the now apparently defunct techtronics.

Same here. My first laserdisc player didn't flip the sides for me and I didn't mind doing it myself. I bet someone with DVD wouldn't except that.

Cool

The Mummy I just bought my first DVD player from Dixon's it had just got a very high rating in What Hi-Fi at £230 and it was £160, and Dixon's had the DVD on cheap £10.

I was both impresed DVD and the picture quality of the disc.

Bought my tosh 2109 for £300 expecting to get 3 free dvd's. Had to send off for them, so ended up buying Enemy of the State and Ronin at the same time.

In 1980 my local video store wanted £89.99 for Dirty Harry....and there were people buying. I decided then to stick to renting. How times change.

1999 for me, ENTRAPMENT I think was one of 5 purchases whilst I was waiting for my Sony DVD player to arrive from an internet company. Got it from play.com, when they were play247.com and they only sold DVD's!!

My first DVD was Pink Floyd 'The Wall' film, I went out and got the DVD and a player to play it on because the VHS copy I had was SO poor. I was amazed at the picture and sound quality.

I bought the original R1 release of Terminator 2 way back in 1997 before you could buy R2 discs. £21.99 I think it was from DiscEmporium.

I remember the farce of being able to buy a R2 DVD player but not being able to buy R2 discs. Modding my original Denon DVD2000 (Panny clone) required opening the thing up yourself and snipping one of the legs on a microchip.

It was a great time.....nobody even new what a DVD was but I could wow visiters with this new marvel technology and 5.1 sound.

Its boring now everyone has one.

Back in March 97 - bought a few when the local laserdisc dealer had imported some Toshiba 2108 players. Interview with the Vampire, Batman, Blade Runner and Space Jam. Wasn't much choice but at half the price of laserdisc's it was rude not to.
