Question Pearl Harbour R1 4 disc Directors Cut - Mastering fault ?????

I've recently bought this purely for the battle scene and am now on my 2nd copy supplied by CDWow! I had to return the 1st when just as the required action was due to begin (scene 22, disc 1) the thing juttered to a hault, waited a few seconds and then began playing very erratically, stopping and starting with massive audio dropout. This happened on both my DVD players, my Apple laptop and a Mac at work This is the first time I've been supplied a bad disc so I contacted them and they immediately dispatched a freepost envelope to return the faulty set along with a replacement without receiving the 1st back ( excellent customer service). The new one arrived this morning, so I popped it in and skipped straight to scene 22 only for exactly the same thing to happen I know they haven't simply resupplied the same set as the discs are kept in sleeves sealed with a sticker, and when I opened the first set a small piece of the adhesive backing came away. The replacement had never been opened

Was there a mastering issue on this set

Thanks in advance

I had a similar problem with my Mallrats 10th Anniversary DVD, it would get to a certain point then would stop and then start to skip all over the place.
I contacted them and then sent out a Freepost envelope and I got a replacement the next day but the new copy also stops and skips so they said they must have recieved a bad batch

I wasent really suprised by the problems though as its a DVD18 (dual layered/double sided) and these are known for their errors.

R2 Ultimate edition isnt as fancy as the R1 extras wise (3 discs including the film)...but it doesnt do silly things when it gets to the all important action bit

Are you saying that all R1 4 disc sets are known to have this fault as I have sent the 2nd CDWow! copy back and ordered from a US based supplier, hoping that it was just maybe a bad batch at CDWow! Am I likely to encounter the same problem wherever I buy it from and thus should maybe just order the R2 3 disc set instead ?

Thanks in advance

I've never had any problems with my R1 set.

(having said that, I'll check it again this weekend. You've got me worried now! )

Actually no...only saying the R2 one seems ok..at least my particular copy is and Ive never heard anyone say they had a prob with theirs when I chatted about this film a while back and that it might be an alternative if you get the same problem again with a R1 replacement......forgive me I wasnt as clear as I should have been

Remember if you order the 3 Disc Region 2 release it is only the theatrical cut of the film, the 4 Disc Region 1 release is the Director's Cut.

watched my region 1 4 disc collectors set loads of times and never had a problem. though it was preordred for months before it was released so would have been one of the first batches id think.

Like a couple of the others - never had a problem with the same R1 set.

If it's happened twice I can only assume they have a faulty batch ?

The Directors cut is rated R and the theatrical cut is rated PG 13 - So Yes loads more gore and violence - some lovely shots of people cut in half , arms blown off etc etc.

I didn't have any problems with mine when I watched it last, which I bought from CD wow perhaps a year-and-a-half ago. Although I will give my discs the once-over because you have me worried now.
