Just before Christmas last year I was chatting with some mates about the number of movies on of Christmas and how many hours we'd spend watching them and some asked the above question.
I decided to find out by pedantically keeping track off every single movie I watched during 2005 (and on what format).

Early in the year I started realising I had a problem when there were more movies than days.
I slowed down a bit but still watch a lot of movies.
It's kind of depressing that the times when few movies were watched, it was due to watching a whole season of 24 or other tv show.

Anyway, as of yesterday, 8th Nov, I've watched 212 movies this year
That's 312 days in the year used.
This wasn't counting watching just half a film while waiting to go out. This was only entire movies.

There have been a few repeats but not many although a large number of the movies I've seen in previous years.

So how many do you think you've watched? Rough average per week anyone??

I watch 2 to three movies a week. most of the time its repeat viewing of some of my collection during the week and then any new stuff I have bought at the week end.

Yikes guys!

I watch 1 movie every two weeks (on average), i think my launch-day Z2 has about 300 odd hours on it. Hmm that doesnt look quite right - 3 hours a movie = 100 movies = 1 per week for two years? Maybe a few B5s and other TV series have adjusted that.

But yeah 1 movie every week or two is about right. I guess i'm on the other end of the scale Of course i do play video games, which takes a fair amount of time that could be spent doing movies.

I did season 2 of 24 in 24 hours and have not been the same since, it really was hard work considering i was sat down for a day.

I probably average 2-3 movies/DVD discs a week, excluding stuff I've recorded from TV (like TV dramas and stuff).

Don't get to watch as many as I'd like, probably around 70-80 per year!

I would say last year i was close to about 200 films, about 4 a week. But this has gone down to probably nearer 100 now, mainly due to TV programmes being watched instead, Spent many hours watching 24, House, Smallville, Lost etc.

Still have quite a few DVDs in their wrappers.

Well it's not like I sat down and wrote the list in one go. No way could I remember that much detail. Just each week I'll add the movies I watched the previous week.
And no, none have been watched at work....... my pc there doesn't have a dvd player

I did do the LOTR trilogy in one day over Christmas last year. It made me so sick of watching them its taken until now in the year for me to want to watch them again. Think I'll put Fellowship on right now (am off work sick in case your wondering and have finished all the episodes of Scrubs I had saved).

We go to the cinema most wednesdays (Orange 2for1 offer :D ) and usually watch 2-3 movies at home each week from our collection of DVD/VHS. I sometimes even manage to slip 1 or 2 in at work on a weekend I only watch movies on TV if they're not good enough to buy and more often than not tape them to skip the ads , otherwise they're from my own collection to get better sound/pic/editting. Will not watch any movie on TV which is separated by a news break

i watch one movie on dvd per day, instead of watching crap on telly, from about 6.30ish - 9ish i'll sit down and have my dinner whilst watching a movie. at weekends i'll maybe watching 2 or 3 movies a day, one or two morning/afternoon, and one in the evening. at least this way it doesn't upset the neighbors with the surround sound firing off late at night

it might sound a lot, but its a bout 2 hours watching per evening isntead of telly, and 4-6 hours per day at the weekends. i don't really watch much telly apart from the news and bbc2/c4 comedies and the odd documentary. i try and avoid watching movies on the telly so as not to spoil the enjoyment of watching them at a time i feel like, rather than being forced a movie at a specific time with ad breaks etc. usually any decent movies are on from 10pm onwards, when i find it hard to stay awake and alert

I would say I watch either 7 films a week 1 each day or a TV boxset a week. This week it was Sopranos. A few have mentioned watching more TV Dvds than movies well weve definatly shifted towards that trend I would say this year we have watched at least 1 box set a month so lets say 12 thus far. but I would say Ive seen at least 200 films on DVD. oh and we go to the cinema twice a week.

I watch a lot less films than I did, I was watching an average of 2 films a day when I was subscribed to a postal rental service. Its dropped back just under a film a day since I canceled, as they couldn't ship them fast enough

Thats obviously split over DVD, Cinema and TV showings of the films.

That total doesn't include TV boxsets and I've watched a few of those this year as I caught up on Smallville s1-s4, Sopranos s1-s5, Curb s3, Lost, etc.

I think last year my kids watched nearly a film a day, but I've cut them back to a couple a week this year.

It was crazy really, as I didn't watch much actual TV, I've now switched to watching more TV than films.

Interesting thread

For me In the last year it'll be around 100. Mostly from my own collection with about 20 from screenselect and maybe half a dozen trips to the cinema. Don't think I've watched any full length film off-air for a while now.

I generally avoid re-watching the same film within about a year as I don't want to end up getting sick of them, as I did with alot of the films I watched to death as a teenager. I also now tend not to watch movies during the daytime anymore as, even on a 28" TV everything seems much more involving in a properly darkened room.

Its gotta be in the hundreds. I like to watch at least 5 movies a week if not more.

We rarely get chance to watch TV/DVD movies Mon-Thursday, however we do the Orange thang at the Cinema on a Wednesday....sometimes seeing two on the trot (I once did 4 on my Birthday...no bother eh?). We prefer to watch shorter TV stuff courtesy of Sky+...after work I have a lower snooze tolerance Mon -Thurs.

Weekends we probably watch between 2 and 5 films (depending on the weather), containing a mix of DVD's and TV films.

So, on average I'd say we watch approx 4 per week...over 200 per year.

So it's the New Year. My final tally for movies watched in 2005 is 247.
I actually thought it'd be higher but I didn't watch as many movies between Christmas and New Year as I thought I would. I actually had things to do! Hurrah! I have a life

Interesting read - we only watch about 1-2 films a week. I'd like to watch more but there's always things getting in the way! This Christmas we watched Harry Potter, narnia and Kong all in the space of about 10 days - quite a record for us but probably a similar viewing pattern to many this Christmas.

I like the idea of the film log and have started one for this year - so far it looks like this:

January

2nd January – Million Dollar Baby (DVD) – 4.5/5
2nd January – Billy Elliott (DVD) – 3/5

5 films in 3 days that puts me at over 600 for a year

I ve decided to keep a record on my PC at work (hell beats doing my job )

I wasn't going to keep a list this year but now it's a habit. I'm on 6 so far this year.
Ignoring the last few days, I think I'll try and watch fewer movies this year.

You know, I really have no idea how many movies I watched last year, I really don't have that much time on my hands !!!!

I did think about starting a list this year, but then I thought... sod that I can't be bothered, still, it's an interesting idea !
