HOFD Limited Edition Boxsets - Which One?

Hi,

I've been looking out for HOFD Limited Edition Boxsets, and come across two. One is Chinese and I think the other might be a Korean release? I've found a couple of examples of these on ebay currently..links below:-

This is the Chinese release

This is the Korean release (I think?)

I'm after some advice from forum members on which they think is the best (in terms of pic quality and overall package)

I'm leaning towards the Chinese release at the mo, but would love to hear your thoughts?

Thanks

Hi Origbowl,

Firstly, the two items on e-Bay are wrongly described! The one that is labelled as the Chinese Set (which has the Pens, Bookmarks, etc) is actually the Korean version, and the one that is labelled as the Korean version (in the deluxe wooden box), is actually the Chinese release!

With that out of the way, I don't have any knowledge of which of the two sets you mention, is the better one, though my personal preference would be for the Chinese Wooden Box Set.

However, it seems odd that the Chinese set advertised on e-Bay, has the third disc in PAL format, when China uses the NTSC format, for all of its DVD's and TV's! This leads me to think that the boxed set may not be as legitimate / kosher (genuine) as the seller claims. In fact, I'd probably go so far as to say, the e-Bay set is NOT genuine, because the seller claims it's an All-Region and Region-Free set, which the genuine set would NOT be at all! This leads me to suspect, that the disc in the set the person on e-Bay is selling you, are probably pirated, even if the other set articles are original versions. (The seller's probably keeping the original discs for themselves! )

Having said that, you should probably see if such a set was legitimately available from any Korean, Chinese or Japanese DVD sites... ...which thankfully, they both were, because I've done the leg-work for you!

There is a review of the Korean Boxed Set (the one including the Pen, Bookmarks, etc) here!, which shows it is legitimate!

And, the Chinese Wooden Boxed Set (the one with the replica dagger) here!

"AsianDB" - the online DVD company that can sell you a new, Chinese Wooden Boxed Set, can get you one, for about $90 (US Dollars), which at the current exchange rate, is about £52 (UK Pounds Sterling) approximately. Buying from them, looks easy enough, and seeing as you will have more security and guarantees buying a new version from them, for almost the same price as the version on e-Bay, I'd say buy from the "AsianDB" DVD company instead.

Okay, well, hope that answers your questions and concerns.

Hi Pooch,

Great...thanks for all your thoughts there. Glad you cleared up which version is which..albeit a tad confusing at first (I had to read your reply a few times to understand it properly).

You have confirmed my suspicions as well as I thought the Chinese Wooden box looked fake because of the Region Free and PAL disc too. A few earlier sales on ebay that I have tracked have all been the correct region and specs. Will steer clear (and have informed ebay too)..

Thanks for the tip on AsianDB...had a look through their site..some good deals and discs here so will mostly likely order from them. They also have the Korean version (Pens etc) but its $199HK...is it so much more due to it being scarce u think?

Once again..thanks

Cheers

HI,

The price is likely because it's becoming a hard-to-find set. This is not uncommon. Obviously, you'll pay only a) what you can afford, and b) depending on how desperate you are for the set.

Having said that, $200 Hong Kong Dollars is equivalent to about £15 in UK Pounds Sterling, so it's not that much at all. Use this website to do currency exchanges on.

Glad to be of help, and apologies if I confused you!
