Poor soundtrack on Revenge of the Sith?

Still looking to receive my own copy. However, in several forums it has been noted that the soundtrack has some serious lacks. On the other hand, several "professional" reviews claims that it is of the best soundtracks ever!?

Whats the deal?

I found it to be an Excellent soundtrack. I think we are spoilt with the quality of alot of soundtracks these days and sometimes expect a bit too much, especially on a film like Star Wars.

What do you mean by "especially on a film like Star Wars" , Kev? Why do we expect too much? Personally i expect top quality from Lucasfilm. Am i missing something?

Tony

Nope, your not missing a thing. I expect top quality too, and on Sith I believe that is what we get. People are far too critical, thats my point

I have said this on another thread, but compared to the other dvd realses of the franchise, I think sith has the poorest sound track mix of them all.

Are people questioning the quality of the music or the quality of the sound mix on the DVD, as I feel the score is phenomenal and moving.

I am convinced that when I saw this at my local multiplex there was something wrong with the sound. I felt it from the get-go; the opening scenes just seemed flat, as if something was missing.

I watched the dvd last week and couldn't fault the sound - all of the energy I expected from the opening space battle appeared present and correct.

Shame the movie was still a big pile of crap.

I didn't think much of the score at all. I was certainly hoping for a new arrangement that would be as good as duel of the fates, sadly this wasn't to be.

Seems to me there's been a pressing problem...any news from Fox as yet Phil?

Is the "bad pressing" a credible explanation?

Well other than the fact that the movie is abysmal, the soundtrack is a little quiet at my "normal" volume, but when cranked up, it seems perfectly fine to me.

I have the Canadian edition, if that makes any difference.

The following is what i got back, not directly from the PR but via a third party.

Quote:
Lucasfilm Ltd are not reporting any faults with the DVD release in the US, the soundtrack was designed and mixed with Benn Burt who has mixed all 6 films for the home (and cinema enviroment). The mix on Episode III is correct and has passed all THX and Lucasfilm quality control standards. Thank you for your interest in Lucasfilm and Fox Products.
I have to say I watched the disc yesterday on my system and couldn't fault it, played at Ref levels as normal. There seems however, reading various comments on the web, to be two batches of pressings. Put your disc in a dvd rom drive and if the file is called Charolette you have a first press run of the disc (this was the cover name for the check discs and made its way onto the first pressing run), if it doesn't have that file name you have a second wave pressing. It MIGHT have something to do with that, maybe the second press is at fault, I couldn't fault my copy on R1 (And it had the Charolette file name).

assuming you mean the filename when looking at your drives on 'My Computer' mine just says STAR_WARS_EPISODE_III and im not happy with mine, even at close on reference levels it seems to be missing sounds, the bass improves with the extra volume, but it just doesnt seem like all the different audio tracks for effects have been mixed in.....

the music tho is lovely, especially towards the end.....

I watched my R3 edition last night and experienced the same shortcomings as described by other people. Sort of dissappointing

I watched my copy today (Region 2 - HMV Exclusive sleeve one if that matters) and didn't see, well hear any issues with the sound. Gratned I do not have a fancy 5.1 setup but everything seemed fine to me. Everything nice and crisp and all at a decent volume.

I checked my copy in my PC DVD player it reports as being 'Star Wars Episode III' so presumably a second pressing?!

Regardless it seems fine to me

I haven't had a chance to check mine yet (but it is Charolette)...just checked my other ones and for some reason TPM is called "Laura"....never noticed that before...

After reading the above posts I checked my R1 copy in my DVD Rom Drive and it comes up as Charlotte and I cant fault it, even when listening to the parts mentioned elsewhere.

Can anyone update me on what the situation is with these Episode III problems? I have been waiting to buy my copy and was wondering if there is anything I need to watch out for or whether I'd be better opting for a Region 1 copy.
Thanks.

Don't worry. There is no problem with either the R2 or the R1. It looks and sounds fantastic.

so why does it sound lacking in areas, ie when you see something centre screen going on and there just doesnt seem to be the accompanying sound you expect?

my example as always being the droid Kenobi slices multiple times on greivious ship in the cockpit scene that falls to the ground like a skeleton thats become disjointed, given its the only thing on screen at the time there should be a clattering of metallic limbs to the floor.....yet nothing.......its like they forgot to put it in.........to those who say the sound is fine, do you get a clattering noise? and obviously audible clattering noise in that sequence? if so then my disc is faulty.....if not then then the mix hasnt been done well because that is a very odd thing to be missing given Skywalker Sounds usual attention to sound detail....
and no it isnt because my system is up to the task etc, i've watched WotW twice now purely because the sound was so well done (the film itself a pile of poo for the most part...altho probably still higher than T3...lol)
