Jaws R1 30th Anniversary Edition

i've just got back from work and found my copy of Jaws on the mat (not bad as i only ordered it last friday from Movietyme )

I have to say its lovely, a fantastic slip case, double DVD and a superb photo book on the making of the movie, and all for 12 quid! fantastic!

My new amp arrives tomorrow so i'm going to wait to see it in DTS "that" music in DTS!!!!

Gary

My copy arrived last Saturday and I agree, it's very nicely presented.

I am wondering what the R2 Collector's Ltd Ed Set will comprise of when released in August. Its RRP is £40.99 but Sendit.com have it for pre-order at £35.99.

I'll wait for the official specs before I consider the UK Ltd Ed. It will have to be pretty special for me to buy this one as it would be a quadruple dip for this movie on DVD!

I believe there's also a 3 disc Scandinavian release at the end of August, not sure what's on the third disc though - soundtrack CD perhaps?

Back to the R1 disc - really nice to have the original mono mix with the original sound effects. That Whale sound (just after Quint's Indianapolis tale) they used for the 5.1/DTS remixes was awful.

Got my copy through from Movietyme this morning also, shame it wasent sent in a box as it has dented corners and creases along the top and side but not bad for only £11.99 and better yet I sold my original R2 release a few weeks ago on eBay for £13 so I am still a pound up

Blondie, where did you pre-order the R2 Ltd Ed for £30?

I'm actually keeping my 25th Anni. DVD, but I've passed on my R1 DTS copy to my uncle.

Thought I would just mention that Play.com have the R2 Collectors Limited Edition version up for pre-order at £32.99

As for what will be in the set, wouldnt be suprised if it is similar to the Japanese Collectors set which according to DVDAnswers will contain...

That's Play.com who are usually quite good at posting packages without damaging the box like some

I watched it Sunday night... man its a superb quality image.... i had not seen this for about 6 years - the long scene when Robert Shaw describes when the war ship goes down is as good as cinema gets imho... stunning!

Does anyone know (probably in the extra's but i rarely watch extra's) if the shooting stars that you see in the movie over their boat are effects or genuine?

You want the Region 1 30th Anniversary Edition, not released until next week but available from a number of websites already.

Don't think it's mentioned in the extra's on this disc, but I remember Spielberg talking about it on an old South Bank Show (still got it somewhere on tape) and I think one of them was genuine.

It's the shot when Roy Scheider has just got his hand gun and gone onto the deck - it's a low angle shot looking up at him and a shooting star flashes by behind him in the night sky. Spielberg said it was such a piece of luck to capture that on film that it gave him a little boost at the time in what was a very taxing shoot - he saw it as a lucky omen.

I think in the following long shot of the Orca on the ocean, the second shooting star was a animated effect.

Spielberg included shooting stars in a few of his other films after Jaws became such an unexpectedly huge success.

Is it really 4 discs as I thought it was just the 2 Disc version of the film along with the soundtrack?

There are alot of titles on R2 that contain DTS but are you referring to the Region 2 release of Jaws in particular? as the spec hasent been released yet but no reason to think it wont contain a DTS track.

Can anyone confirm if the two hour documentary is the same one that was on the laserdisc? This was condensed to one hour for the original DVD release, so I'm wondering is this the full version or a brand new doco.

Thanks.

Agreed. Got a VHS copy of this from the laserdisc. Looks like it'll be a trade up to the 30th from the 25th Anniversary DVD then!
