Your perfect movie

OK - no thinking about your answer...the whole point is you shouldn't have to; it should just spring to mind immediately...

Question: Which was the last movie you saw that left you thinking "you know what, that was damn near perfect"?

After suffering the hugely disappointing Revenge of the Sith, I started to think about the last time I actually walked away from my local flea pit absolutely satisfied...

I can remember it as if it was yesterday....walking out of The Usual Suspects with my head spinning. For me it had everything - great plot, dialogue, characters, actors, well paced and directed, killer score...the works.

That's a heck of a gap between The Usual Suspects and today, which is pretty damn depressing.

Aliens is the film that comes to my mind immediatley. After about five seconds Shawshank Redemption and 10 seconds The Good the Bad and the Ugly. Alas no films of recent (maybe Collaterall - loved the film) really spring to mind.

Without a doubt, for me it has to be Hayao Miyazaki's "My Neighbour Totoro"!

The quintessential children's animation that grown-ups will love too... unless they're Chav idiots!

'Gladiator' was a pretty amazing experience. Also 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon', 'Shawshank Redemption', 'Dune', 'Donnie Darko' also springs to mind.

My perfect film hasn't been made yet: it must have a terrific cast, superb script and great direction.

It must be like nothing I have ever seen before, but must also have guns, helicopters and a proper porn-film-style gratuitous sex scene (or three).

Fast cars, women and surround effects are a given. A quality soundtrack as well.

Oh, and the irritating side-kick/whinging woman/whiney kid must die a horrible, painful death. Then the hero (who could even have done the killing) must smirk about it, then go drinking at the beach, where a Reef bikini contest is happening on the sand. He gets to be a judge.

There, a challenge to all movie makers out there!

The original Matrix was an awsome concept and had me thinking about it for days. Is it perfect? I am not sure but it had everything I wanted in a film..........originallity.

My Sassy Girl it is just perfect, makes you laugh in all the right places and knows knows which strings to pull and the Return of the King very good expreince when I first saw that.

I think 12 Angry Men is the closest I can get to a perfect movie. I can't find anything that's wrong with it, or could have been done any better

last perfect movie i saw was "sideways" fantastic film on every level.

other perfect films:

Once upon a time in the west (simply stunning)
Once upon a time in America (fantastic)
The dollars trilogy (shock my movie loving world)
Blue Velvet (i've never been so scaried in cinema - FRANK!!!)
JFK (awesome sound, editing, cast, story, direction script)

If it was any one film from any era, then probably 'Seven Samurai' or 'Battleship Potemkin'. Arguably the two most pivotal films in cinema history, with the exeption of 'Citizen Kane'.

Forrest Gump pretty much covers all the bases.........and you can watch it with anyone from your kids to your girlfriend to your granny...

Not my absolute favourite film but one that I think answers the question for me.
