The Last Curtain Call Of The Late

Just thought I’d let you Know Robert Urich died this morning, of a rare cancer, and was only 55. He was married to Heather Menzies (who stared in the TV series Logans Run as Jessica). He was most remembered for Spencer for Hire, and Dan Tanna in Vegas. He also starred in S.W.A.T. and more recently was seen on Sky in The Lazarus Man which I quite enjoyed. He had to stop staring in this role because of the cancer and it was thought to be in remission and he started taking other roles such as the Captain Jim in Love Boat: The Next Wave.

Spencer: The Judas Goat is on tomorrow on Ch5 15.30

I also believe he was a huge film fan and had a mega theatre with stacked Runco projectors.

Thats a shame.

He was a pretty young guy really.

I use to like watching him too, I think Spencer For Hire is the clearest memory to strike. When younger I use to confuse him with the drug addled Stacy Keech.
Terrible way to go.

He always sticks in my mind with the film The Ice Pirates. A very funny sci-fi film with time jumps near the end of the film that make it hilarious. The loss of a great actor.

Garrett

Tried merging the previous threads into this one but as you can see it bungs them in date order. Sent a quick PM to Spectre and with this version of the board software its not possible to move posts around within threads!! So I cant put your thread description back up to the top. Sorry!!

Let me know if you want the others merged, not sure how they´ll fit in here though so might be best to start new posts.

Cheers

Jase

;Lisa "left eye" was a talented individual. Not many of us/you will know her but I suspect you will know the songs she sang on. Only last weekend I heard "Unpretty" and decided I had to actually go and buy a TLC album...I didn't and now I regret it.

I feel very sorry for her friends and family and look forward to the release of TLC's next album and hope it is a fitting rememberance for another talented individual who has died too young....

In peace,

Gordon

Feel free to edit the Robert Ulrich post, the only other option would be to delete posts within the thread to move yours up, but I dont want to do that to be honest.

Just thought I’d let you know all you Dr Who fans Jonathan Nathan-Turner, who produced over 130 episodes of Dr Who, died on Wednesday aged 54.
He started out as an actor appearing in Crossroads at a young age. He started at the BBC as a floor assistant and worked his way up to producer. He also was responsible for casting the last 3 Doctors for the BBC TV series.

Patrick Fyffe has died aged 60 of cancer.
Patrick played Dame Hilda Bracket in the duo Hinge and Bracket, who were a pair of opera loving (cross-dressers). They had their own show ‘Dear Ladies’ in the early 80s.

Gordon Wharmby best known for his role in Last Of The Summer Wine, who played Wesley Pegley (the one who was always messing with cars and machines, and drove the Land Rover), died in hospital in North Wales, on Saturday aged 68 .
He had recently been diagnosed with lung cancer.

Thanks Garrett,

Exactly what his thread is for. I missed all of these demises. I liked all of them. I would have been really upset to have found out long after the event.

Hi Dubbing Mixer I cannot confirm this yet but was told by a mate, Michael Coles is dead, I have searched the Internet but cannot find any thing on it.
I will always remember him as playing nasty villains. I think he was the one doing all the killings in the film Sweeney (and a hand in killing Linda Belingham character) The only time I remember seeing him as a good guy was in the two modern day Dracula films with Peter Cushing.
If you got to http://us.imdb.com/Name?Coles,+Michael it just may jog you memory who he was.
Anybody else got news on this!

Hi Garrett,

I had a look around the web too. From his filmography, I'd know him if I saw him. I couldn't find anything useful either.

Please keep up the good work!

Late news in but I have just been reading in the paper today about Norman Vaughn, and Bryan Pringle.

Bryan was born 19.1.35 and died 15.5.02. I will always remember him in bad tempered roles. He can be seen at present on Sunday mornings on Granada Plus in The Dustbinmen as Cheese and Egg.
He must have had hundred s of roles but I will always remember him in the afore mentioned role.

Sorry no dates for Norman, but he was a comedian whose catchphrase was Swinging (thumb up), and Dodgie (thumb down), and used it in a Cadbury’s Roses advert. He compared the Sunday Night at the London Palladium from 62-42 and also hosted The Golden Shot.
I don’t now what Norman use to be on but he always seemed full of energy, that he could have power all of Britain. He always seem to come across as a nice guy.

More info on Norman Vaughan. He died last 17.5.02 aged 79. In April he was knocked down by a car and never recovered and died in the Royal London Infirmary.
He devised Bullseye, and was one of the host on Mr & Mrs.
It seems not only my view he was a nice man, in one of the paper the writer said he was a lovely man.

Sorry to hear about Bryan Pringle. I remember him fondly in both comedy and serious roles. In particular, I remember him playing a pedarast in a BBC drama and going into hiding when it was transmitted for fear the audience would mistake the actor for the character!

A great character and comedy actor he will be sorely missed.

Pat Coombs has died aged 71, she born was born 27.8.30, died 25.5.02.
Pat had complications from emphysema, (she was a heavy smoker) and developed gangrene and was told she would have to have both here legs amputated, but had refused.
One of her last role was in Eastenders as Marge Green . She was mainly a comedy actress and when appearing on panel shows pretended to be single and man hungry.
Look out for her in repeats in Dads Army(UK Gold) and The Dick Emery Show (Granada Plus).

John Frankenheimer Director
Died on Saturday of a massive stroke after surgery on his spine.

Film director, of many a fine, and classic films such as:

Birdman Of Alcatraz 1962
Manchurian Candidate 1962
Seven Days In May 1964
The Train 1964
Seconds 1966 (which I only recently stated was one of the most chilling films ever).
Grand Prix 1966
and more recently Ronin 1998

He initially wanted to become actor, but became involved with camera work, then came directing.

Born 19.2.1930 New York. Died 6.7.2002. Los Angeles. R.I.P.

John Frankenheimer:

A pioneer of multi-screen technique. Grand Prix is, perhaps, the best example. But the same tricks are evident in the much underestimated, Ronin. ALthough the soundtracks of both movies seem somewhat dated in the light of contemporary techniques, the visuals more than make up for it.

A sad loss, he had much good work left in him.
