Films with great actors that could have been made

Imagine Sly Stallone as the street wise cop in Beverley Hills Cop or Johnny Depp as Louis in ""The interview with the vampire". Well Eddie Murphy and Brad Pitt were not the first choices for the films mentioned above but eventually won the part to.play these parts.

Even the original "Superman" had some old Hollywood names thrown into the ring to.try out for the man of steel back in the 70s. What if Robert Redford got the part and not an unknown like Christopher Reeve? Would these original choices have done better?..or would they have fallen prey to the typical Stereotype roles that were spawning sequels like remakes today!

I myself would like to think that on some of the films a better actor may have been a better choice however with an unknown actor it can be more refreshing because as a viewer you tend not to associate previous characters they may have played before.

Jason Statham as Hitman - I reckon he would have suited this role very well

Arnie or Stallone as John Mclane... would have been very interesing! M60's at the Ready

What if Eric Stoltz stayed as Marty Mcfly, Would Back To The Future be as big as it is?

Will Smith as Neo - Now this would have been Very Interesting... Ooo Hell No

Edward Norton as Patrick Bateman - To behonest i reckon he would have pulled this off very well but Bale is just the perfect actor for this role

Im pretty sure there is a website where they show who the potential CAST(s) were for certain films

Not if it had been the same crummy travesty of an adaptation with the same terrible CGI creatures. Arnie is even further removed from the everyman type of the novel than Smith is, so to have a stereotypical action hero in the part would have made the film even worse.

Where did you hear that ?

BTW. a quick check on Wikipedia gives you the actors who actually were considered.

I wouldn't say he's further removed - the novella seems to suggest he's of germanic descent I think

And I'd rather see Ridley Scott's interpretation which wouldn't have had some tenous Bob Marley link and might actually elude to why he is legend.

The thread isn't called "Films With Great Directors That Could Have Been Made".

...and I'm glad the 80s/90s age of the block-of-wood action hero is over. To suggest that Schwarzenegger is a "great actor" is mildly humorous to say the least.

..entirely trades on the nostalgia for that period by assembling all those big oafs.

There aren't any current examples of muscle packed freaks with comedy accents headlining action films. You are more likely to get someone who can actually act, like Matt Damon or Liam Neeson, starring in an action franchise.

Jason Statham - his American accent can be amusing.

Sorry but your party trick of pedantic point scoring by making out that the exception to the rule is the rule is as tiresome as ever.

I said "the age of the block-of-wood action hero is over", not that there aren't any. Statham stars in mid-budget films of moderate success. His films are not the type of "He Man" blockbuster starring Stallone or Schwarzenegger which ruled the box office in the 80s and 90s. And even if he were to be this decades Schwarzenegger, where is this decades Stallone, Van Damme, Segal, Lungren, etc. ?

Actors who may have missed the opportunity to take a particular role have sometimes helped their careers onto mega stardom, some others should have took the part when the part was first offered. It is a tricky one as you never know how the film will do at the box office or with the critics.

Richard Todd, Richard Burton, Rex Harrison, David Niven and Rod Taylor all turned down the part of Bond. Ian Flemings personal favourite was Christopher Lee but I don't think he was offered the part.

Rourke apparently declined a couple of roles that may have made a difference to the course of his career:

He turned down the Tombstone role of Johnny Ringo that went to Michael Biehn but, much more importantly, he turned down Willis's role in Pulp Fiction as boxer Butch, a film which would have surely kick-started his comeback over a decade earlier...

Fleming said somewhere Bond looked like Hoagy Charmichael, but I think he was a little too old to play him in the movie.

David Niven played him in the first film version of Casino Royale.

Would've quite liked to have seen Cary Grant as James Bond.
