Watched The Awakening last night, a nice little supernatural flick starring the great Dominic West and Imelda Staunton. Solid performances all round, a good few jumpy bits and a touching reveal at the end. Made by the goold old BBC, too

Watched the Woman in Black last week after seeing the stage show in London. Was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. I didn't think I could watch anything with Daniel Radcliffe without thinking of Harry Potter but after 10 mins or so, the story took over and he was excellent. Very enjoyable film.

Over the Easter holiday I watched Dead Snow. I heard good things about it but, Meh, found it quite boring tbh.

I also watched The Grey with Liam Neeson. Very, very bleak film that really doesn't get going after a pretty good opening 20 mins. Not bad, but not good either.

If anything the ending alone ruined the film for me. It's like they cut the actual movie 15-20 minutes too early.

I watched the Australian found footage horror film The Tunnel. After the excellent Absentia and the rubbish Urban Explorer this is the third tunnel based horror film I've seen this year. This one was middling, with the usual running around with a shaky cam and then it had a couple of creepy moments towards the end. Most interesting thing about it was that you could download it for free from their website for a while.

Yes I did. Hard to make out what it was at first though and it still doesn't really tell you anything

The good news is that they still make great horror films in Europe.

Looks like you are 13 years behind though.

I tend to get my information about films from and buy my films on the Internet. If you have an interest in something then it's never been easier to find out about it.

Repulsion 1965 ★★★★

Watched Apr 24, 2012

Another fantastic early film from Polanski about a young girl and her journey into depression and madness, and it really does still hold up today I tend not to jump much at movies but got a big one out of this that I didn't see coming.

Hello All,

Well Ive been out of the horror loop for a couple of years now. Recently watched Awakening and The Divide (not technically horror but a cracking film) and they've rekindled my horror bug.

Ive got Absentia and Snowtown on the way.

Any advice on what else I *must* watch would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
B

In a Glass Cage 1989 ★˝

Reviewed Apr 25, 2012

Pretty sick movie that should have turned into good disturbing story, but instead just became very Arthouse, and left me a bit bewildered in what the hell was that about, strange film with plenty of style but in the end dull.

Absentia: down to earth and disturbing horror. Thought provoking in ways. Kept me interested in the plot and characters the entire way through. 7.5/10

The divide: very bleak. Nicely shot at times. Not enough scifi as i would've liked, more survival and group dynamics (social). Some solid and disturbing performances. Definitely worth watching. 7/10.

Only two I've seen from the list

Apartment 143
★★˝ Watched 30 Apr, 2012

Reasonable effort but still doesn't bring anything new to the over saturated shakey cam horror market.

I thought Dreamhouse was a pretty good thriller more than a horror, good performances with a few twists to the tale 7.5/10 will watch again def

Absentia - very good effective supernatural thriller on a budget
Dream House-Nothing new or remotely horrifying apart from Daniel Craig's acting abilities.
The Divide- Enjoyable and pretty tense survival horror
Megan is Missing- If you want something disturbing and shocking this is the one,a very very hard watch.

From the start you know where it's going as its supposed to be from some real case disappearance's but I wasn't quite prepared for the last 20 or so minutes, and can very well believe this happens a lot.So yeah I found it very disturbing and for a standard budget movie I think they achieved in what they where setting out to do.

Just watched this and found it to be the most disturbing last 22 minutes of any film I've seen!
I teach Internet safety to 11-18 year olds and this film just hit home as to the severity of people grooming etc on the net and as you rightly said "you can very well believe this happens a lot". This film will stick with me for a long long time!

Benny’s Video 1992
★★˝ Watched 01 May, 2012

This early film from Haneke was not quite the film I was expecting,it was interesting in parts but really suffered from being to long and very drawn out affair that really didnt delve deep enough into the mind and actions of the disturbed main character.

Cassadaga (2011)

Enjoyed this horror/thriller. The lead girl was hot. The acting all round was very good. A serial killer got up to some freaky stuff, got to feel sorry for the ladies. - 7.4/10

Outpost II: Black Sun

The nazi zombie soldiers are back, it's watchable, but the little old lady was the creepiest thing in the film. 6/10.

Underworld 4 Awakening

Enjoyable. Older Becky is losing the x factor in the rubber suit. 6.8/10

Do the Underwold movies count as horror films? I suppose they do as they have vamps and werewolves an' all, but they always struck me more as action adventure than anything else.

Hostel III. Could have been worse considering it's a cheapo home release only. It does spin a few twists on the formula but it's super tame on the "torture porn" gore front.

The Yellow Wallpaper 2011
★★★˝ Watched 06 May, 2012

Enjoyable enough ghost thriller that was a bit unusual and kept me wanting to know what the outcome was going to be,done on a relatively low budget but there was something about the acting and atmospere created that I really liked.

Deep Red 1975
★★★★ Watched 03 May, 2012

Excellent atmospheric Giallo with some real classic scenes and really didn't mind the repetitive music really thought it added a lot to the mood, only down side was it was just a bit to long as it was the directors cut I viewed, looking forward to watching some more of this genre.

Poltergeist 1982
★★★★ Rewatched 04 May, 2012

My lad is just getting into horror films,so thought we would give this a go, having not seen it for 20 years I remember it not being that scary at the time,he felt the same the first hour and half and i could tell he was gettin restless, all changed last 30 mins he was terrified hiding behind pillow half peeping, saying my god this is brutal,I also enjoyed it more than I was expecting its definately a 80's nostalgia classic that was well worth a revisit.

Don’t Torture a Duckling 1972
★★★★ Watched 02 May, 2012

Excellent thriller from Fulci, found the story really held itself together, most of the acting was a bit meh don't know if that was down to the dub,but didn't really spoil the movie one bit, definately one of the better Giallo movies I've seen, excellent use of the settings, music and camerawork.
