Duff 70's/80's action films

I need a fix of nostalgia, as so many new titles are bland, derivative and vacuuous.

So thinking back to my youth, here are a few 70's & 80's action films I'd like to see available on DVD:

North Sea Hijack
Shout At The Devil (lots of different length prints. Longest please)
Golden Rendezvous (Can't beat a cheap Dick Harris actioner)
The Island (Nice Ennio Morricone soundtrack)
At The Earths Core/LTTF/PTTF/WOA (Need Pete Cushing/Doug McClure/rubber dinosaur fix now!!!)


Finally,

anyone ever see "Commando Leopard" with Lewis Collins. Nice little euro-action pic with some excellent minature FX's.

I guess you know that At The Earths Core and The People That Time Forgot are released 20th November as part of MGMs Midnite Movie range. Shame the plug got pulled on the cheap Blob/Land That Time forgot doubleheader disc that was due out recently for a measly $7.50.

Wasn't there some Euro "Operation Wild Geese" movie where they went out to destroy a cocaine plantation in Columbia or somewhere, that starred Lewis Collins aswell? I remember that one was fun "back in the day". I think Klaus Kinski may have been in it too.
There was a decent Sean Connery flick with him as amercenary too. The Last Grenade, maybe?

Rambo John J, "Codename: Wild Geese" was the movie. It had lots of well known euro-stars in it such as John Steiner, Manfred Lehmann, and as you said, the great Klaus Kinski. Also Lee Van Cleef & Ernest Borgnine.

This and "Commando Leopard" were directed by Anthony M Dawson (Antonio Margheritti?) He also did an extremely violent Vietnam war film called "The Last Hunter". Starred David Warbeck. He was most famous for the infamous "Cannibal Apocalypse" with John Saxon, and the fun "Killer Fish".

All of these gems are desperately needed on DVD if you ask me.

Cannibal Apocalypse seems to be doing the dance of the ever slipping release date over at Anchor Bays website. Damn shame indeed.

Killer Fish? James Fransiscus, Lee Majors, some fat guy, and a pond full of piranha if I remember correctly. Boy did that fat boy bleed when the fish got him.

Yup, there's definitely a dearth of good honest cheese on DVD at the moment. Someone should release all this stuff on a budget label and fulfill a few of those vid-shop memories. If someone like MGM can do it with their Midnite Movies then someone else must be able to with some of the more way-out stuff. Cheese lovers are DVD buyers too, after all.

I'd like to see a disc of John Milius's Wind And The Lion aswell.

I totally agree. The midnight movies label is an excellent example of giving the public what they want.

I have "Theatre Of Blood" and await "Killer Klowns From Outer Space".

As for "The Wind & The Lion", all VHS UK versions have recently fallen foul of the BBFC due to the horse stunts. Despite being carefully staged by veteran stunt man and horse specialist, Terry Leonard. His work is also missing in the two UK version of the Conan films for similar reasons.

I've mentioned these titles before, but I'd like to see "Grizzly" and the "The Day Of The Animals" given the same treatment as the recent DVD release of "The Car".

Also, how about "Wild Geese"? Surely this deserves quality treatment. Unlike the shoddy way "Who Dares Wins" got handled by universal for region 2.
