If you're gonna slate it, can you at least come up with something original? Hell, what am I saying - people have been saying the same old **** about Star Wars for the last 15 years, why change the habit of a lifetime?

Must say I'll probably miss AOTC in 3D (Don't think I could handle the romantic scenes set on Naboo again) but I'll definitely be seeing Sith onwards at the IMAX in 3D if he converts them.
Just to add it was a full house at the bfi IMAX yesterday afternoon.

I never did like any of the new films, but I really am looking forward to new hope onwards in 3d. I have no major issues with the newer films, just a question of taste I guess. It'll be really special if they do a good job of the Death Star attack in 3d, I can imagine that being spectacular if done well.

Thank God for my unlimited card so I only wasted £1.50 on this. Honestly Lucas has now crossed the line, the 3D added absolutely nothing, I would have thought at least the pod race would have been brilliant but no. I'll only go to watch New Hope if things improve in 3 years, avoid this at all costs.

The movie's on course for a very tidy 'opening weekend' in the US, it'd be a laugh if it took more than Red Tails.

I saw it 11 times originally. Love the battle, loved the story about Vaders youth.

It's an easy movie to slate but I loved it. Even dressed up as Darth Maul that Halloween with full face paint. He is my favourite Villain

Just to add my tuppence worth to the thread. I must say I was very disappointed in watching this in supposed 3D. I would certainly think twice before seeing the next one if it does get converted. £20 quid I'll never get back! lol Slightly off topic I watched Sanctum in 3D on Saturday and the effects were brilliant compared to TPM.

Cinema Blend liked the 3D version:

if you've seen enough terrible 3D conversions, you might want to check this out as an example of it done pretty well
To 3D Or Not To 3D: Is The Phantom Menace In 3D Worth It? - CinemaBlend.com

Then I've read other reviews that say it's not worth the extra money.

I used to love star wars, i really did, but my love has dwindled over the past few years thanks to Uncle George and his "tinkering".

I've not bought the blu-rays and im certainly not going to see any 3d Retro Fitted dog turd rolled in 3d glitter.

ive just got back from watching starwars 3d ....what a complete waste of money there was no 3d effects in it !! i was expecting loads of new enhanced3d effects especially on the final battle and the pod race but no there was nothing..

i read george lucas is thinking about retireing well i say dont think about it just do it !! your talent faded years ago youve never done a decent movie in 20 years and all your movies think more about how am i gonna make money selling the spin offs than making movies the fans want too see..

after seeing this so called enhanced 3d movie i wont be wasting money seeing the other ones ill just stick the the bluray box set the picture looks better and so does the sound ..i watched this in a brand new cinema with all the best gear in it and it looked and sounded worse than my home cinema ..

if your thinking about seeing this save your money and watch a proper 3d movie these converted 3d movies suck ass there terrible.

Oh dear, how funny? Too funny.

So, we get folk criticising him for making changes and now we get folk criticising him for making no changes at all. No changes were ever announced for the 3D films. Had you paid some attention before the film's release you'd have saved yourself some money.

Oh, man, gotta love the haters.

You'll be made up to know that George Lucas has not reneged on his statement about retiring. At least that should keep you going.

i'm not sure what youre getting at here, waxxy is clearly criticising the lack of 3D not the lack of extra scenes and thus your post looks a little childish.

Four different posters saying the same thing. Nothing new under the sun. The criticisms were lame and boring then....thirteen years on and they've still got nothing new to say

Ooh, get you!

He moaned about the lack of new effects. I took that to mean he expected new effects.

Looks to me like he meant 3D effects, not new effects.

Look there's a simple answer to the Star Wars in 3D question.

Star Wars in 2D is awesome, but the 3D makes it STUPENDOUSLY AWESOME!

End of.

As it ever was.

The folk who are knocking the film in 3D would have knocked it regardless. Criticising George Lucas has become something of a full-time hobby for some people.

Grown men should know better to watch this pile of garbage rendered in fake 3-D.

If people keep handing money over for nothing then Georgie boy is going to keep taking advantage of y'all. I'm not interested in anything I-III related because it damages the Star Wars world (Quigon aside).

Ahh, but if grown men knew any better then we wouldn't have pages and pages of internet forums devoted to discussing these films, now would we?

Anyway, a lot of adults are paying that money so that their kids can see these films. So lighten up!

Thats fine... anyone who takes the initiative to introduce their kids to the wonderful world of movies gets my vote.
But, seriously, adults paying again to see a movie they most likely detest just because its now in '3-D' - I'll never understand.

ps. I'll try and lighten up a bit

I agree completely.

I'd be happy if they released them on the big screen every few years in 2D as I like seeing them this way.

The 3D effect was non existent and a similar effect can be achieved by watching the film with sunglasses on

well we all know the film isn't the strongest of the franchise, so i won't go there, but i will say this.. imho the 3d is very weak indeed providing neither great depth or any additional entertainment value, tbh i had better results with my lg passive set, for me the only thing good that came of it was a set of realD pod race goggles that i bought at the box office..

It seems it wasn't worth all the effort ILM put into the conversion.

ILM didn't do the conversion, they farmed it out to the company that did the appalling 3D conversion on Clash Of The Titans.
I'm surprised anybody actually expected it to work

Where did you go to get them?

I saw this with my wife last night, and we both agreed that the 3D was not successful (few conversions are). However we both enjoyed the experience of seeing it on the big screen, and while this is not my favourite Star Wars film it was entertaining to watch.

I'm not over familiar with Episode1 so can someone confirm whether this is the longer version that was on the dvd? If so, is this the first time it has appeared on the big screen?

The current Cineworld magazine is advertising Darth Maul themed 3D glasses with matching soft bag on a page at the back. From memory, they just had red rims and black arms.
