Exactly. Hicks and Newt

were killed
. What has been seen can never be unseen!

Not in favour of changing what has been done, no matter how much I hated Resurrection.

To be honest I pay alien 3 and resurrection about as much attention as I do the lost boy sequels.

Never understood the hate for 3. My last favourite of the trilogy but still enjoyed it, anxious thought it wrapped up Ripley's journey well.

The CGI was a bit ropey in the tunnel chases but not enough to spoil it.

Not for me - aliens moved ripley story on nicely, cathartic and all. As soon as ripley, newt and bishop were 'dealt with' at the beginning of alien 3 it lost interest because a. I'd invested so much in those characters in aliens and b. the characters in alien 3 were barely given any time to register - shameful waste of some fantastic actors too.

Alien 3 was a virtual reality experiment designed to test her loyalty to the 'the company' and see how she would behave if they used her to try and secure another Alien specimen.
Problem solved, now they can do a proper sequel to Aliens with Ripley, Newt & Hicks as it should have been.

Really don't think David Fincher would be too chuffed about this 'Bobby Ewing Shower' scenario happening. It would be kinda like a big slap in his face. Obviously it would never happen though.... Would it?

Not sure Fincher would be that bothered. He has pretty much disowned the film and refuses to have anything to do with it.

Didn't know that... In which case he would most likely encourage it then

Yep, apologies Garrett, I slipped up there too. Thanks for modifying my post & any quotes.

Apologies also to any members who may have not seen Alien 3 & Resurrection but read our posts before modification.

Garrett you made a blunder though, you attached [S] tags instead of [SPOILER] to my one, so the spoiler was put on a little sign, instead of spoilered!

And Phil's Quote in Markus' following post needs the appropriate tag attention too, unless Markus could amend it himself...

News on the film rating, i assume Scott will be filming with for an R-rating, and they will edit one version down, allowing Tim Rothman (head of 20th Century Fox) and Scott to decide what they want to release.

Im glad Scott is involved in the process and that he makes the final judgement to what works better. And hopefully we get two versions for the blu/dvd release.

"Prometheus is being shot for a PG-13 cut and an R-rated cut. Final decision will be made by Scott and Rothman after watching both"

= Wider audience therefore more revenue... I know it sucks, but thats how Hollywood tend to market big blockbusters these days!

At least it's a fair compromise that they'll release an R rated version on DVD/BD. They could just not have done that at all. If the film is good then I'll watch it at the cinema once and then on Blu repeatetly. Also, the original Alien and Aliens are quite tame by today's standarts and they would probably get a PG-13 today.

There were reports that Scott was struggling getting the cast and an R-rated cut for the budget he demanded. Now that he got his budget, he compromised slightly on the cast (Charlize Theron instead of Michelle Yeoh) and on the rating.

Ridley Scott (via video feed) & Damon Lindelof talk 3D during the SDCC Prometheus panel

Scott vows to only work in 3D from now on!!
Quote:
3D has been a wonderful exercise but I was brought up as a camera operator so its really about lensing and all that kind of stuff. So with the help I’ve had from a wonderful cameraman and his technical team its been, for me, a pretty straight forward ride. That said I’ll never work without 3D again, even for small dialogue scenes. I love the whole process. 3D opens up the universe of even a small dialogue scene so I’ve been very impressed with that.

Screenwriter Damon Lindelof :
Quote:
When Ridley decided to film in 3D, he understood [lighting] was going to be one of the profound challenges and I think one of the things that was important to him was, in terms of the constructions of the sets, that the movie was shot on sound stages in Pinewood. Just these humongous, expansive sets. Everything is built. If you’re building a ship, he just built the ship…..I’ve never been on the set of a movie that’s actually shooting 3D before. Anytime you walk into video village there are essentially five massive video screens. You walk in, get a pair of glasses and you can see the shot and suddenly you understood, even on the production design level – the movie was designed by this guy Arthur Max who did Fight Club – ‘Oh my god, they actually designed this movie for 3D.’ Ridley is a shot maker. He makes beautiful art.

So the idea of going in post and putting things in there digitally is not going to happen in this movie. Therefore, I feel any movie that’s going to be in 3D has to answer the question, ‘Can you justify this being in 3D? Why should it be in 3D?’ I think the answer to that question for Prometheus is it creates a very immersive environment. The idea that you’re in sometimes very confined spaces, sometimes very wide open spaces. But the only way to trick your brain into feeling you’re in the movie, going through these experiences with these characters, is that the 3D helps bring you into that immersive environment and just based on what ive seen so far I think probably one the most visionary and visual directors in the world is finally using this medium, I think its going to be pretty special.

The thought of Charlize Theron in space has grown on me, she's a good actor really.

Liking all this new Prometheus news... apparently it shares one piece of DNA with the original Alien but that's all, and we'll understand how it relates in the last few minutes of the film (space jockey maybe??). Scott says he's using minimal digital effects and that he'll never work without 3D again... oh and he also wants to scare the living sh*t out of us.

Low gravity suggests it probably isn't LV426.

a small bit of info I missed earlier is that Theron apparently said ”...she is really the suit, she’s the one that runs the company,” you can speculate as to what this could mean..
