Woah... that gives more away than I was expecting. So what are we seeing here...? they find a ship, get infected by its cargo then have to stop it heading to Earth before they all mutate into monsters. .?? Why does everyone sound Australian? Or is that just me.

That's an awesome trailer, which doesn't sound Australian in the least.

The question of the rating is still up in the air though, which Sir Ridley answered with a diplomatic reply of "It will be what it is" over at AICN. Reading between the lines, it's clear that the studio wants a PG-13 and Scott is gunning for an R, which is obvious from the sheer intensity of the latest trailer.

I won't be boycotting the film or throwing a hissy fanboy fit if it ends up PG-13, but I only hope that Scott's vision isn't compromised by the lower rating, because I don't want to experience his long-awaited return to sci-fi in a lesser form. I want that first IMAX showing to knock my ****ing socks off.

I to won't boycott this because of the rating but I'm really hoping for an R rating whith all the bells and whistles . Does look bloody good so far though and some great casting choices.

Can't wait for this any one know how to speed up time ?

An R rating in the US could mean a 12A rating in the UK and a PG-13 in the US can become a 15 in the UK so I won't base an opinion on the rating alone, solely on the film and from the trailer it looks like it could be one of if not the best film this year

I always assumed they found the Derelict on the planet but it looks like it is more of an automated system and is sent out to worlds which have progressed to far and might be a threat, very interesting development.

I'm thinking that this is the case too. The 'Space Jockey' is sent with a queen alien already gestating inside. Then, when the ship reaches the target planet...it bursts out and does it's job? The beacon that warns passers by to stay away is so that the method used won't be discovered? Perhaps the 'Space Jockey' is a tool created and used by a higher authority that we have yet to witness?

But why start life and then put clues in place that then send that life on a journey it to it's end? And why such a cumbersome way of doing it?

Ridley Scott talked about being able to extrapolate, on an evolutionary basis, from what we see in this movie to the Alien in the original movie. There must be a creature that is a few evolutionary steps behind the xenomorph?

Are we to assume that LV426 once had life that reached a technological level that was able to seek out and find it's creator?

So many questions?

Fantastic trailer that pushes all the right buttons for this happy camper. Sr Scott appears to have the suspense and thrill factor well covered- as expected.

I only hope he hasn't overreached himself with the wider questions concerning evolution and human civilisation. I don't like some of the ideas being posited concerning the whole 'creator' thing and about the cosmic significance of humans (we have none). The civilisation 'trap' idea might be interesting, but seems rather convoluted and begs the question- why would a civilisation bother tricking another into it's destruction?

Hopefully the real story will be something different (and better).

Now that last trailer really looks the business

Looks like Sir Ridley is going to do as he said and take the Alien mythology in a whole new direction

Only time will tell if this is going to be epic but looking at the trailers it pushes the right buttons for me

I love the idea of archaeology finding clues in the past to our existence . Then to go off searching for answers without any real understanding of what we might find .

As a side I'm reading the third of the trilogy of Steve Alten's Mayan series and a very good read for people who love this stuff

Thanks Ray

2001 ... with a very bad ending

From the trailers it looks like the big head sculpture (and the things that are reminiscent of alien eggs on the floor with ancient writing and alien-looking corridors) is inside a different structure - not the big alien ship that becomes the derelict in Alien. Maybe that alien ship lands after they find the building?

And it seems like the space jockey is actually some sort of armoured body suit for a human rather than alien? (so it'll be interesting to see how they handle the continuity with the "fossil" with the chest wound in Alien)

It looked to me like the ship launched from below the surface of the planet and that they rammed the Prometheus into it.

Maybe Ridley has incorporated some of the ideas he originally had for Alien which included an alien Pyramid and alien Hieroglyphs. Not exactly the same as these obviously, but he certainly did consider the idea of ancient structures and symbols for Alien.

There appears to be a space jockey in the trailer and he's much bigger than the human characters, looks like he's about 12 foot high. I'm really pumped about this, makes me feel like I felt when I was a kid looking forward to this.

Perhaps he is one of the Prometheus crew after exposure to something.

Slighty off topic but good books indeed, have you tired
Saga of Pliocene Exile (Saga of the Exiles) by Julian May...It consists of four books: The Many Colored Land, The Golden Torc, The Nonborn King and The Adversary.

Anyway look at my post 604 ... you see what i see can't belive nobodys seen it in the trailer

Well this is all getting very exciting now Need to take a pill and calm down.

It does look like a departure from previous incarnations in the franchise as was promised. For me this can only be for the better as I'd much rather watch something new than recycled .

From the first film I've always wanted the story of the space jockey and now well find out hopefully .were they just carrying cargo ?were they the creators?

From the trailers it looks like they were the creators but for why and what means ?

Looks like were dealing with biological engineered species to me ? But where do we fit in to the plan ? If there is a plan .

As you might imagine I'm a wee bit excited about this I feel like a kid on Christmas eve Just hope I don't get a crappy new jumper.

At the end of the 2nd trailer Fassbender's character says "Big things have small beginnings" whilst he's holding something on the end of his finger. During the third trailer we see a guy with some sort of tadpole in his eye. My guess is they're dealing with a microscopic organism with accelerated growth (probably originally suspended in jelly inside those pods), if this is the case then at some point during the movie I guarantee they'll be a scene with scientist looking down a microscope whilst saying "incredible... It's multiplying at an astonishing rate... I've never seen anything like this before!". Lol. Actually I reckon it'll be more like a cancer where it turns normal cells into something else. Whatever it is, my feeling is that we won't see any aliens other than ones they all turn into. Also just to say that I find the whole thing about following clues in ancient civilisations a bit naff and wish they hadn't done that.

One mans naff is another's masterpiece ! If you want to watch another monster mash movie there are plenty out there . We've been there with the alien franchise it's time to move on to something a little more challenging .

This may not be it only time will tell but I for one live in hope.
