Maybe in years to come some of the modern films will fit the bill but I can't think of any off the top of my head. I don't think The Expendables will be considered a classic in 10 or 20 years time, but I'm sure there's plenty of people who'll still be watching it, the same way I still spin a ton of dumb but fun action flicks from way back. I agree that films like Predator, Robocop, Die Hard, First Blood are classics with endless replayability, but that's why they're classics and not every action film from back then was as good as they are. That kind of quality wasn't the norm, that's what set them apart from everything else and why they're remembered with the respect they are now. If making a classic film was easy everything would be a classic and there'd be no bar to measure them by. The 80's set the standard, you're right, and it produced a hell of a lot of decent action films... aswell as a lot of not so decent ones.
It doesn't matter to me that films struggle to reach that kind of high point as long as I get some enjoyment out of them. I'm willing to give them that chance, you know, I like seeing Stallone, Arnie, Dolph, Van Damme and the rest of them going round the block for old times sake in something that isn't going straight to dvd, it puts a smile on my face and gives me yet another reason to dig out their greatest hits from when they were in their prime. They're older yes, they're slower yes, the films aren't as good as their greats but they'd still wipe the floor with me. I like the old school films the same as you do, but I'm not ready to write all those guys off yet. I haven't seen Chuck Norris on the big screen since I saw Code Of Silence at my local ABC cinema twenty something years ago and I'm pretty happy that I'll get that chance again. Maybe some people would prefer that these guys just fade away and leave them with the memories of their best films. I can understand that, but that's not the way I feel. I think they've all still got something to offer and while they're still making films I'll still be interested in seeing what they come up with
Well put mate

It's confirmed as R rated, for strong bloody violence throughout. Up yours Chuck!

Expendables 2 has its R rating - The times of fear are over, it is for adults - Movie-Censorship.com

Lets not forget what R stands for: R – Restricted – Under 17 Requires Accompanying Parent Or Adult Guardian.

So effectivley a 10 year old could watch it with an adult!

At least with a 15 in UK it sets a threshold.

So Expendables 2 needed to be a NC-17 – No Children Under 17 Admitted.
for a chance of it being 18 in the UK, depending on the review by the BBFC.

Oh I see.

Hmmm, I must admit I was expecting it to be 18 rated like the first one.

Ok, well to be honest, I am gonna enjoy this movie regardless. At the end of the day, the rating means nothing if the film is no good, so if the film is great, it can be a U for me

I need to hunt out a BIG screen to view this movie as its not showing in my fave dafault IMAX standard !

I think you'll find the original was rated 15 aswell.
There was an uncensored directors cut on blu though.

I see the London premier for Ex2 is scheduled for Monday next week (13th August).

Anyone know if it's gonna be a high profile event ?

Will search the tv listings at the weekend to see if any channels are covering it like Sky did with TDKR.

The London premiere tonight AFAIK but does not appear to be any coverage on TV that I could find !

That said, Daybreak did say Dolph was going to be on "The Lorraine Show" this morning so set the planner to record that.
