Cool Going to the Big Apple

Hello - all...I'm lucky enough to be going to New York (or unlucky depending on how paranoid you are) - does anyone know a good place to pick up some bargain dvds - I've only got 1 afternoon to shop so if it's somewhere fairly obvious - that would be helpful..

thanks ya all - have a nice day

i havent been to the same spot, but my experience of the states is that the best bargains are online, you arent likely to do that much better elsewhere

you can do well in some places, likes of wallmart or best buy or something can have some good prices, but like online, it takes you to search through for the bargains

It may have changed since I visited NY 3 years ago, but on the whole DVD's were more expensive there than here (as was McDonalds and anything else you can think of come to think about it). Saying that if you really want to buy some films while your there, you will find the usual large cd/dvd shops IE Virgin and Sam Goody just of 5th Ave and in Time Square, there was also at the time a shop in the arcade under Trump Tower that specialised just in DVD and Video which had a very good selection, I bought a couple from there myself that I had had trouble getting on line.

Hope this helps.

hi bertha.
was there a year or so back, for a week.
lots of place`s to choose from, but my bargains all came from blockbuster.
had a shed load of previously viewed dvds, including many new releases... if memory serves me right think they had a 3 for $15- deal going.(all were in excellent condition)
so if used dont worry ya definately worth a look.
have a good 1.
best wishes
nick.

i got some bargains from tower records, but you would be better shopping online and getting them delivered to your hotel.

When I was in the States last Summer I was surprised and disappointed at the lack of cheap DVDs. As others have said you can pick up some cheapies at Walmart and the like, but Virgin, Borders, etc are very expensive. No different to over here.

Fortunately, just by luck, I was driving around and came across DVDPlanet's store, where they sell DVDs at the same price as their website. I filled my boots!

Just came back from NYC last week, J&R is a great store, DVD department is not what you would call organised, but pretty good IMHO.

FYE store in Avenue of Americas (few doors down from Radio City Hall) was better organised and not too bad on price, worth checking out for DVD,SACD and CD's.

Joss Stone Album was $8.99 in FYE
