stand-out gun scenes

can anyone think of movie scenes involving guns that have really caught your attention. im putting this out there after watching heat that, in my opinion, is full of them.

val kilmers awesome sniper work at the drive thru cinema, the street gunfight obviously and also what about the scene where deniro shoots his m8 through the pillow to put him out of his misery.

another one i thought of was the minigun scene in t2, the terminator lives up to his word and ensures no human casualties, oh and mac chopping down the rainforest with "old painless".

love to know what everyone thinks

Re: stand-out gun scenes

Despite the mediocrity, I loved the final scene from Michael Manns Miami Vice. The clarity of the guns is unreal.

Re: stand-out gun scenes

The bank raid and the shoot-out which opens The Wild Bunch is very dramatic. More recently, The Kingdom (set in Saudi Arabia), has a 20 minute sequence of a shoot-out with terrorists which rivals the bank raid scene in Heat. It was produced by Michael Mann and you can easily see his influence.

Re: stand-out gun scenes

the shoot out at the end of Open Range is a goodie.
for close up action the begining of Street Kings is quiet powerful
the blast up in Children of men is first class, but perhaps not classed as a shoot up.
Man I love a good shootemup
PS the Kingdom really is a goodie

That last 20 minutes or so of The Kingdom rescued the film for me, cracking bit of action.

Re: stand-out gun scenes

Although not a sound effects laden & ultra realistic scene, I like the bit in The Good, The Bad And The Ugly when Tuco 'builds' his gun from the components of the expensive ones kept under the counter.

Re: stand-out gun scenes

The final gun fight in True Romance that is started by a cup of coffee.

The opening shoot out in the tea house in Hard Boiled is also a cracker.

My favourite gun film is The Replacement Killers. Daft but great. There are far too many great gun scenes to mention. Chow Yun Fat's best English langauge film?

Re: stand-out gun scenes

Extreme Prejudice with Nick Nolte - a modern(ish) take on the Wild Bunch.

The Way of the Gun - little seen thriller staring Benicio de Torro and Ryan Phillipe, which has another Wild Bunch inspired shoot-out at the end of the movie.

I'm sure every Tackleberry should have both of these in his dvd collection.

Re: stand-out gun scenes

A scene that I always thought was awesome and had me all excited when I was younger was the Scene in predator where all hell breaks loose and they shoot half a mile of jungle to bits. Amazing.

I like the Guns in The Baz Lurman Romeo and Juliet. They are gorgeous pieces of art.

Then there are the crazy guns it Eraser that shoot through anything.

The Killer (All of it )

And although A Better Tomorrow II has a wonderfully over the top shootout, I have a liking for the scene in A Better Tomorrow with the guns in the plant pots.

Oh, and the "Bullet time" from Full Contact.

Yes!! A lot of gun fire in the last scenes. RPGs from the balconies too

I remember the last scenes from Way of The Gun had a lot of shooting in it. Haven't seen it for years though so not sure how it went exactly. Way of The Gun on DVD tonight it is then

Re: stand-out gun scenes

there's gun fights and there's gun fights, for me a fair bit of realism is needed to get my attention, fear, guns doing what they really can do,a SPR style tourdeforce that leave you wondering if you could have made your legs work and get up up that beach.the final shoot out at the end of heat, would you go out there and face Macaulay????.
the matrix was just too cool to ignore and one of my exceptions but it was a computer game after all with an amazingly well explained story line, pitty they had to stuff it up.

The big gun scene in Heat is the only bit in the whole film I can stand watching.

I also like Replacement Killers too. There are some good bits in The Good, the Bad and the Weird.

The warehouse shootout and the hospital shootout from Hard Boiled, I read somewhere they filmed a full 3 minute scene in the hospital without cutting camera, pretty impressive choreography.

The baby carriage going down the stairs scene shootout from The Untouchables was awesome.

Leon vs SWAT
Danny Boy scene in Millers Crossing
Ending of True Romance

Short and sweet scene but the first shoot out in Man on Fire. Goota love Denzel, great film. Same director as True Romance too I think (Tony Scott).

the man on fire shoot out is really full on and very fast.
Denzel actually looks like he can use a handgun esp in the first scenes of american gangster which really shocked me the first time I saw it.

For stylish gun scenes one film that always springs to mind is the Quick and the Dead. Raimi's camera angles and guess who got shot always stands out in my mind.
