Name the Film

Black and White US movie from the 40s or 50s. Rich and spoilt youth falls overboard in the Pacific. He is rescued by a fishing boat. He has to work for his supper until the next time they are in port. Captain (thought it was Spencer Tracy or Burgess Meredith but can't find it on IMDB in their filmography) makes a man out of him.

Any ideas?
