Cineworld's new pricing for 3D films

As if 3D wasn't expensive enough, it looks like it's now going to cost us more:

Cineworld Cinemas: News Article - New pricing for 3D films at Cineworld

The sense of depth it adds to the picture has impressed me in a couple of films, but I was disappointed with it in Up (and the screening we saw didn't have the short, so paid more for less) and that has made me think more carefully about what I'll be watching in 3D.

Vote with your pockets. 3D is overrated. It came and went before for a reason.

It's scandalous that Cineworld Unlimited viewers are being charged extra to watch the film. Completely defeats the object of being 'Unlimited'

Just one more reason not to go to Cineworld for me then.

Re: Cineworld's new pricing for 3D films

So, what was happening before?

We paid £1.50 as Unlimited Customers, for which we got a pair of glasses and we gladly threw them in their 'recycling' bin on our way out. Cineworld then got them recycled (which probably meant steam cleaned and rebagged) and then gave them to us again.

So now Cineworld are responding to 'our concerns'. What concerns? It seems a perfectly reasonable procedure to me....apart from the price of course.

So, the £1.50 price has been replaced with a £2.10 price...for the same process. Now Cineworld presumably had previously costed this at £1.50 but are now telling us that the price of going greener has suddenly jumped up by 60p. However, if we hang on to our grubby glasses for ever and a day, they no longer have the recycling charges to pay and so have more of the £1.30 available to them. And our reward for this..? A paltry 20p.

What are Cineworld going to do with this 60p increase ('fine' call it what you will)from Unlimited customers if they decide to go for a new pair of 3D glasses?

Hmmmmmm..patronising to say the least.

Re: Cineworld's new pricing for 3D films

I couldn't believe the cheek of the email .

I've taken my kids to several 3d flicks and everytime returned the glasses, they have never said you are welcome to keep them for future use and now they are willing to let us buy them and still pay extra.

I don't get it do the staff get a bonus for showing a 3d film? I hope they sort out the pricing as I enjoy 3d films but am sick of paying more even on our unlimited cards.

I got my 3D Avatar tickets this week, at my local Empire Cinema instead of Cineworld, and the tickets were £9 each. Ouch!
