Films you shouldn't like but you do!

For me one of my all time fav terrible movies is GalaxyQuest. I love it, would never buy it but if its on TV at 1am then theres nothing i'd rather do than watch it again and chuckle the whole way thru.

Blimey, you sure got that thread off to a bad start.

What is terrible about Galaxy Quest ? It is a much liked comedy with a great cast and a witty screenplay, which got fantastic reviews when it came out. Did you not get that it is a parody ?

Ofcourse i did, but its still a terrible film none the less, its not the sort of film you'd have a pub talk chat about.

Its a parody of the original StarTrek series which in its own right is terrible and it has Tim Allen as the lead character. Since i like neither Tim Allen or the original StarTrek series then really should i like this?

I think a great many people are going to disagree with you that one of the most groundbreaking and infuential TV series of all time is terrible.

Even if you don't like Tim Allen (I don't but he is great in this) then just remember that the film also stars the always excellent Alan Rickman, Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub, Missi Pile and Sam Rockwell. Casts for genre comedies don't get better than this.

Anyway, you like the film, but there is no reason to feel guilty about it. Next time try to pick something that actually is rubbish.

I suspect you maybe in a minority with that one, I thought Galaxy Quest was very good, and definitely one I would mention in a pub...

A film I really like, but perhaps shouldn't is Legionnaire... not because it's a bad film, but because 3 words that normally make me want to switch off are "Jean Claude Vandamm"

Re: Films you shouldn't like but you do!

I love Galaxy Quest. Can't wait for it to come out on Blu-Ray, personally. But hey, everyone has different tastes so no worries.

"Where are you going?"
"To see if there's a pub!"

Class.

For me, it'd be The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. Rather liked that. Especially the last half hour (no, not because it was half an hour from the end...).

Re: Films you shouldn't like but you do!

Bit of a strange thread for me as I pretty much adore all film. It’s what I’m most passionate about so if I see a film and I like it, so be it. I can’t say I really care what others think.

Don’t get me wrong I get the point about liking something others may find embarrassing but its something I’d more associate with music when I find myself singing along to some atrocious boy band.

If I did have to pick a film I enjoy but others (certainly at the time) hated, it would have to be At worlds End the third in the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. Whilst others found it overly long and possibly not as well made as the ones that preceded it, I however thoroughly enjoyed the adventure, loved the sound track and the astonishing graphics.

I'm glad I wasn't alone Galaxy Quest is a brilliant film and a lesson on how to do parody, with love and respect.
