Re: Play USA Duff Info?!?

I think because it's a Combo format with DVD on the other side. So the DVD will be the Region 1 format which will only work on North American HD-DVD players.

The HD-DVD side should work around the world. I believe.

Re: Play USA Duff Info?!?

For some reason they put region 1 only on all their HD DVDs not just the combos. Check their entry for The Thing. It'll play any where in the world. It's the same for the HD DVD sides of the Trek discs.

Re: Play USA Duff Info?!?

For £15.00 more you can get the UK Region 2 (DVD Side Version) with no risk of import duty.

http://www.sendit.com/video/item/7001000138950

BTW, Make sure your copy plays all disc okay, several reports of duff combos in this box-set including my own...

There is no risk of Import duty from Play USA as they are posted from Jersey with all duty paid.

Cheers

From playusa website

The product you have selected will be shipped from North America and may be subject to import duties and taxes once it reaches your country. These and any additional charges must be borne by you. If you agree to pay these additional charges should they be levied click I AGREE below. If you do not wish to order this product click I DISAGREE below.

It's a while since I got an import from Play but when I did they came from Belgium. The UK discs came from Jersey. I'm not aware of the duty paid bit. How does that work?

Re: Play USA Duff Info?!?

I think any title over £18.00 from playusa can be subject to extra duty.

You can quite often get away without being charged but this has got worse lately plus the post office charge £4.00 just to collect the duty which may be just a pound or so.

I have been more luck lately back with amazon.com

Yes I think anything from Play over £18 could be subject to a customs charge, not just from Play USA. It's been £18 for around 20 years. It should be at least double that if inflation had been taken into account. I don't think it's worthwhile for Customs to examine packages that are not much over £18. So I think they let a lot of them through but they can charge if they wish.

Best wishes

Re: Play USA Duff Info?!?

Play usa seem to put that disclaimer on all HD DVD's and BLU-RAY's, you'll have no problem importing hd dvd's and playing them on a uk machine.

Play tend to ship any box set direct from the US so you are liable for import duties, just the normal discs that come from jersey. Stick with movietyme for the box sets IMO.

You will be hit with import duty if you order from PlayUSA.

Play.com are customs safe, but USA are not.

They are in Jersey. How are they Customs safe? It'd be great if they are.

Goods purchased from traders in Jersey and Guernsey

Customs has in place with the Jersey and Guernsey Customs and Postal authorities a special scheme that allows many of their traders to collect and pay to UK Customs import VAT on sales they make to UK customers. These traders, who are approved by the Jersey and Guernsey authorities, are allocated a unique authorisation number and this should be stated on the outside of your package. Under these arrangements you will be asked to pay import VAT, if applicable, at the time you make your purchase, and will not have to pay any additional costs such as import VAT, or the Royal Mail handling fee, when you receive your goods.

Region 1 DVD's I've had in the past have been posted from Jersey.

Re: Play USA Duff Info?!?

Well I didn't know that. As I say the last time I bought an import from them they came from Belgium. It was ages ago. Their Uk discs came by surface mail from Jersey and the US discs came by air mail from Belgium so the US discs arrived quicker.

All the best
