CD-Wow Order Of The Phoenix - Pirate?

After some advice please.

I ordered Harry Potter and the Order Of The Phoenix from CD-Wow on region 2 DVD.

It has turned up this morning and although it plays in a region 2 player something about it just isnt right, firstly there is no region on the back of the case or on either of the discs and secondly there are no BBFC markings on the case at all. Also the print on the case isnt great quality and the artwork on the discs look very bland, dont know what it is but something just doesnt feel right.

I thought it was a copy first but after playing it the language options come up as Australia (for English), although it has the FACT advert at the start as well. If this is the case and it is Australian can they sell it as Region 2?

Not sure what to do!

CDWow are now Australian owned, this is what an Australian copy should look like http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/796439 I think the R2 and R4 discs are the same as, on another forum, someone said of the R2 copy that you can select Australian and skip the FACT ad. He also said picture quality was lousy and speculated Warners have done it deliberately to nudge people in the direction of HD. If you aren't happy complain.

Re: CD-Wow Order Of The Phoenix - Pirate?

This comes up quite a bit on the CD Wow threads on he forum. CD Wow tend to source alot their R2 stock from all around Europe rather than just the UK, which is why many dont have any BBFC certifcitaion and why the print on the cover can sometimes be not quite the same standard as UK.

They do sell Aussie dvds but will list it as both R2+4. I very much doubt it is a pirate but like the other guys have said, if you are ubhappy, send it back.

Picture quality is lousy but is it the same for the UK version as well?

Not sure whether it is worth the hassle of sending back, will have a think over the weekend. One thing is for sure though I wont be ordering from CD Wow again

Yes. Some people also complain about the sound.

CD Wow have always been sourcing R2 DVD's from all around R2 which is why they can be as cheap as they are. The DVD's are 99% always the same as the R2 UK anyway and is just the packaging that is different. Many also come from R2/R4 DVD's as they get discounted by the suppliers quicker than UK versions.

Re: CD-Wow Order Of The Phoenix - Pirate?

Region 2 does NOT = UK. It does not = Europe, and it does not = PAL.

I'd say they are at liberty to describe a product as region 2 if it will play in an unmodified region 2 player.

I'd lay money on your disc being a legitimate release.........but perhaps not sourced how you expected it to be.

Many R2's they sell are also dual coded R2/R5 (Russia) as well. My Without a Trace S2 was like that. The discs are the same as the UK ones.

Don't cut off your nose to spite your face - the CD WOW thread at the DVD Bargains forums is one of the biggest threads here
- www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=283215

and after a bit of a bumpy ride after they were shafted by the BPI and went into admin, their new owners have restored the good service and delivery times we were used to before
