Best Internet Rental Site
Hi. I'm looking to join an Internet movie rental site. I want to hire mostly Blu-Ray disc's and if not available on BR then DVD.
Ideally I'm looking for a combination of great service & good stock levels. I don't mind paying a little extra for a quality service.
BTW : Do they post via some sort of registed mail or just put them through the letterbox ? I ask as I'm never in when the postman comes.
Thanks for any views from your experiences.

Re: Best Internet Rental Site
Theres quite a few threads around if you search for online rental or similar, I used to be with LoveFilm but since decided I would rather purchase and sell on or keep.
They send it by normal post and you post back by normal post too (they include the reply envelope), I never had any problems with lovefilm, but at the time I was only renting DVD's, so for HD/BR I don't know how well they are coping. I am sure it can't be that bad though

Re: Best Internet Rental Site
I've been with Lovefilm for ages (since they were Screen Select), first rate service and a good selection of both HD DVD and Blu Ray. I found it took a while to get my first hi-def discs from them, but once they started they're now coming thick and fast, I easily get at least a couple a week.

Re: Best Internet Rental Site
I can also recommend lovefilm. I only rent DVDs at the moment but they have a very fast turnaround and their support is excellent. If you do a bit of Googling you should be able to find a code that gives you a 3 month free trial.

Re: Best Internet Rental Site
I'm using Lovefilm but around half the discs have had playback issues and this is on different players, an E1 and a PS3. I was watching Xmen 3 tonight and it froze in chapter 12, I had to restart the movie. I never have issues with new bought discs.

Re: Best Internet Rental Site
In the 3 years or so I've been with them, I think I've had one faulty disc (including games, DVDs, HD DVD and Blu Ray) and once you report it faulty, they send another one off your list straight away, they don't wait for you to return the faulty one, which is good.

Re: Best Internet Rental Site
Thanks everyone - sounds like a big thumbs up in general for ilovefilm
I can't see anything other than their 14 day trial at the moment - but will have a better search tomorrow.

Re: Best Internet Rental Site
I Love Film also run the Tesco DVD rental which I choose because they were a bit cheaper at the same time for exactly the same service (I went with the 3 rentals with games rental option too).

Re: Best Internet Rental Site
The problem with Lovefilm (and also Screen Select before it) is their service is absolutely superb in the first couple of months.
Disks being sent from the top of your list and a 2 day return to new disk ratio.
However for some reason after about two months (and I have been a member of both going on 8-9 separate occasions) their service perminantly drops considerably.
Disks now take 3-5 day turn around. You rarely get disks anywhere close from the top of your list etc.
I once done a tester having two accounts live with Screenselect at the same time and at the same address (you cant normally do this but somehow I managed it once) and I was sending both disks back at the same time and same post box and the older account's disk always took an extra day or even two than the new one, to go back to Lovefilm.
My advice therefore would be to join, after two months cancel. Then join again with another credit card. Wait for two months then cancel this and reactivate the first account and so forth.

Re: Best Internet Rental Site
I had a LOT of trouble with Tesco DVD rental, because about half of the discs were damaged in some way. About half of the damaged discs were watchable if you skipped a chapter or 2, the other half were just non-starters. And I usually tried 3 players on the damaged ones. Also, there were quite a few times we got a DVD outside of our top 10 chocies.
And Lovefilm is (or at least was then) who powers Tesco ......
In contrast, I have had no troubles with Amazon DVDs (been with them for 2 years now), they also have a great selection, and I always get one of my top 3 or 4 choices. Very happy with them.

Postal strikes notwithstanding, I can't say this has been my experience at all. As I've mentioned above, I've been with them over three years now and maybe a couple of times a year, you'll get a week or two of slow downs when discs take an extra day to turnaround, but most of the time it's a two day turn around, without fail, in my experience.
I've no idea if they throttle you, if they feel you are getting through discs too quickly, but I tend to go through 3 - discs a week, on average, and their service has been generally, nothing short of 1st class.
For the record, I don't work for them, or have any connection with them other than being a very satisfied customer

I believe I read somewhere a while back that they have secretely decided on a maximum amount of disks you can have per month (even when your on unlimited subscription) and if you go over that then they do throttle your account.
If I remember correctly it was something like either 20 or 25 per month (for the 3 disk unlimited service).
Obviously this could have just been someone guessing but when I have been a member I have been a quick returner of disks and easily went over that 20/month limit if it existed. I am guessing with your 3/week rentals you have not.
