How to get your VAT and Handling Fee money back

Thought I would start a thread as a number of us have had a nasty shock with regards getting charged VAT and the Royal mail handing fee as part of the Amazon.com buy one get one free offer, anyway I believe I've gotten to the bottom of what you need to do now to claim all the money back so here goes.

The first thing you need to do is claim the VAT back from Customs and Excise to do this you need to send of to the address on the red and white sticker on your packaging ideally the original stickers from the outer packaging of the box or a photo copy of these along with your original receipt from Amazon showing the pricing error, I also included a covering letter explaining what went wrong. Customs and Excise will then send you a cheque refunding the VAT and a letter. Once you are in receipt of the letter you can then make a photo copy of this letter which then needs to be sent to the address below so as to claim the £8 handling fee back from Royal Mail :

Royal Mail International
PO Box 740
STOKE-ON-TRENT
ST1 5XZ

I did read it and e-mailed 'Enquiries.estn@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk'. I have got no response back from them yet.

Is this a confirmed method- as in you have got all your money back?

I've mailed customs and will await a reply from them.

Will try a call in a few days

If you call the number I posted above that's what they advise you to do, I only sent my paperwork of yesterday to customs so it's to early for me to say whether it works or not.

Moving this thread to the DVD Suppliers forum.

In fact it may be better suited in our FAQ at the top of the DVD Suppliers forum, but will wait to see how it pans out first.

Re: How to get your VAT and Handling Fee money back

Actually I had this happen once before a couple of years ago and I was reimbursed by the sender in the US rather than the hassle of contacting customs etc.

I did speak with customs at the time, and they said they would be okay to investigate it, but that responsibility lay with the sender because it was their fault that they misquoted the value of the items on the package.
