Frasier boxset on e-bay

I've just become a fan of the TV show Frasier (yes, I know I'm a decade late). So I'd like to get the whole lot on DVD. I searched e-bay and found this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tchlink:top:uk

Now, that seems an unbelievable price to me. Sure, it's region 1 which is fine with me and it does fit that season 10 isn't there as this comes out in December in the US.

There are lots of ads on ebay selling Frasier for similar prices. Some have only seasons 1-9, again region 1, some have seasons 1-9 on region 2. The latter is peculiar as it seems from my searches that only seasons 1-7 have been released on region 2?

What do you guys think...too good to be true?

Well if is too good to be true that is the case, this is a pirated set I am sure. Ask yourself why there are no pictures of this one

Re: Frasier boxset on e-bay

the seller's last few auctions have been for tv boxsets ie star trek, friends, sex and the city - also all going for ridiculously low prices. Since it's highly unlikely he could be making any money at all selling them this cheaply then my gut would say they're stolen or pirated, but there's no way to be sure, and the feedback doesn't help.

Might be worth the risk for that price, if they turn out to be pirated, you could always threaten to report him to ebay if he doesnt refund you, has been known to work..

Re: Frasier boxset on e-bay

Yep, the fact that there is no picture was something that made me suspicious.

It just seems alot of trouble to go to for something like Frasier, pirating it and selling it for this price. It must take hours to pirate the discs. And it's not exactly top of everyones shopping list.

I'm not sure what to do

Leave well alone. You will most likely get some dodgy region free set, probably with the paramount comedy logo still in the corner from where they recorded it off the TV.

As KevD said: Boxset + Ebay = Knock Off

Re: Frasier boxset on e-bay

Yep, i think when doubt do without (or some other cheesy saying could apply )

Look at this, s/he says:

Quote:
Region: Region 1 (can be played on most of UK & Euro DVD players)
Now if it's region 1, how can it play on most uk/euro dvd players as not everyone has a multiregion player. Even if it's not a copy, could well be a dodgy asian edition, as most chinese editions are region free. But because most people don't know the difference between region free and region 2 they'll just see that it works on their player and think no more about it. Plus i'm sure the pic quality is crap.

If you bid on it, and it turns out to be dodgy, you'll say why oh why didn't i just not bid!

Btw on amazon.com the complete series of Frasier is selling for almost $300, and has a whopping 44 discs. I wonder how many discs that seller's item has?

Re: Frasier boxset on e-bay

I finally got 2 sellers to reply to my questions. One of them directed me to these links:

http://www.ebayoyo.com/index.php?gOo...9&productname=
http://www.ebayoyo.com/index.php?gOo...wt&goodsid=189

They look well dodgy to me. The DVD labels look awful!!!

They said I can buy the item direct from this link.

The other guy told me that the item is an Asian region-free release.

I also e-mailed other buyers of items from the sellers and three replied saying they were happy. Strange though that all the buyers and sellers replied to me within hours of one another???

One of the buyers who was happy told me that the Friends boxset she bought was from China and that all discs were loose inside. Here is that item:

http://www.ebayoyo.com/index.php?gOo...8&productname=

Think I'll steer clear.

I would.

The reason why they can fool a lot of people is the DVD's are hard to tell they are bootlegs by the average person. They can be made in proper factories on pressed DL discs (not burned on computers) but it is done illegally. I also even seen music CD's done the same way.

Sometimes the discs do not have removeable chinese subs. The boxsets use more discs than the proper releases. Some also have missing episodes.

That, i am assuming is to reduce the chances of you emailing eBay and saying this item is fake, getting a paypal refund and leaving negative feedback.

The main issue for me is quality, usually these bootlegs are compressed from dvd9-dvd5, badly, but not everyone knows the difference, which may be why those other sellers are happy.

Haha, look at this 'feedback', sounds well fake. HD quality, my arse

i love this website, ive ordered around £500 worth of DVDs and they have all been top notch, well packaged and HD quality. the price is half and then some of wat they offer in the shops,
But i find it funny that the webaddress begins with ebay (ebayoyo), strange. Wonder do eBay know about this, because there may be copyright as it's partly using eBay's name.

Re: Frasier boxset on e-bay

Keep an eye on ezydvd in Australia. Every now and again they have a sale on TV DVDs and at the moment they have Seasons 1-6 of Frasier reduced to £9ish and season 7 to £16.40. I've ordered a few things off them and there's been no problems and thats DVDs coming from Australia to Ireland.

DVDCrave.com is another Australian retailer and they have Seasons 1-6 for £8.10 each and Season 7 for £16.92 but I'm only going on the recommendations of others here and don't know what they're like for shipping charges.

Also note Australian DVDs are region 4, make sure you have a multiregion dvd player

I always thought Oz DVD's were region 2

So, I have a UK DVD player that plays region 2 and has been hacked for region 1. What do I need to do to make it play region 4?

My player is a Samsung DVD-HD950.

I'd deffo order from the Oz sites you gave me if my player supports the DVD's.

Re: Frasier boxset on e-bay

Some DVD's are dual coded R2/R4 (the are the same disc in both regions). The DVD player needs to be region free or be able to set it R4 for the other DVD's.

So by hacking my machine to play region 1 DVD's, have I also enabled it to play region 4 discs too?

It depends if the hack is a region free or set to a specific region.. If you can play both region 2 and region 1 then you should be able to play region 4.
