DVDSoon question

Placed my 1st order with them a couple of weeks back. Is it common practice for them to take the money 8 KIN WEEKS before the release date ?

I look at the money coming off your card straight away as a bonus because whenever a preordered disk arrives, you've paid for it month's ago.

While they gain 8 weeks interest on your money!

Think how much business they do, then realise how much money they must make!

and hence why they can offer such cheap prices, swings and round abouts.

I look at the 8 weeks that they have my money as my free delivery. But I'll stop using them when the free delivery stops at the end of the year.

Have to say I dont like paying money now for something I wont get for weeks or months, that is why whenever I place an order with DVDSoon or CDWow it is usually only a few days before the release date.

their prices ('soon) increase (pretty much >95% of the time) as the release date approaches. So if you paid 8 weeks earlier and they earn interest on those 8 weeks of £10 then its probably not too different to paying 8 weeks later for say £11-12.

In fact, its probably worse ;-)

Edit: I forgot to say that I will also stop using them once free shipping ends (again).

If you buy a lot of films from them, it might be worth becoming a fidelity card member. You 5% off every order, points (admittedly you need a lot to get anything) and free shipping continues.
Saying that, didn't they stop free shipping for a short time at the begining of this year? It soon came back.

Exactly. I stopped using them when their free shipping stopped (as I'm sure a lot of people did), and they reinstated it after a few months. I'll also stop ordering from them as of Jan 1, and I expect that their sales will drop by quite a bit until they bring it back.

As for holding onto my cash, Mr. Wilby is right about DVDSoon's prices going up before release, which is why I like to order early. When I look at how much interest I'm earning on my money each month, the amount I'd earn on £10 is negligible.

Yes, that's what I'm hoping. Their prices have gone up and up over time (I guess this is only natural) but if they remove free shipping again I am sure their sales will fall. Hopefully enough people will vote with their credit cards (i.e. take them elsewhere) and they'll be forced to reinstate it again.
