Valentine’s Day is A Good Day to Die Hard

The fifth Die Hard movie gets a new trailer and a release date

Whilst we aren’t convinced that Die Hard classifies as a date movie and we’re concerned that a 57 year old Bruce Willis might do himself a nasty injury, it would appear that yet another John McClane film is on the way. Whilst the last Die Hard movie - Live Free or Die Hard (or Die Hard 4.0 outside the US) - was poorly received it did perform well at the box office and hence a fifth installment. Part of the problem with the fourth film was that it was toned down to get a PG-13 rating and as such didn’t really feel like a Die Hard movie. Anyone who has seen the unrated cut will know that the film was originally shot with more graphic violence and bad language but then cut to achieve a more commercial rating. The same fate appears to have befallen Taken 2 and since we’re dealing with the same studio an equally Die Hard-lite can unfortunately be expected with the new film.

A Good Day to Die Hard stars Willis and Marty Elizabeth Winstead (The Thing) and Jai Courtney (Jack Reacher) as McClane’s two grownup children - doesn’t that make us feel old! Joining the fun is Patrick Stewart, Cole Hauser and shed load of Russians. The film is directed by John Moore (Max Payne, The Omen) and written by Skip Woods (The A-Team, X-Men Origins: Wolverine), so our hopes aren’t high.

In the new film, John McClane finds himself on foreign soil after traveling to Moscow to help his wayward son Jack - unaware that Jack is really a highly-trained CIA operative out to stop a nuclear weapons heist. With the Russian underworld in pursuit, and battling a countdown to war, the two McClanes discover that their opposing methods make them unstoppable heroes.

The new trailer is online now and A Good Day to Die Hard opens in the UK on the 14th of February 2013.
