Yes we all know how it ends but who didn’t fall in love with Jack and Rose?
It’s hard to believe it now but before
Titanic premiered in December 1997, film industry experts were expecting a flop of monumental proportions. How, they asked, could 20th Century Fox be stupid enough to spend $200 million on a film with no stars, no built-in franchise, an ending everyone knows, no merchandising possibilities and no opportunities for a sequel? Well, the trusted in James Cameron and he didn’t let them down, delivering the most successful film of all time and 11 Oscars to boot. In fact
Titanic’s unassailable position at the top of the box office charts was only dislodged in 2009 and that was by another Cameron film.
Titanic was given a 3D re-release at the cinema back in April to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the ship’s sinking and it managed to be a huge it once again, joining
Avatar as the only other film to take more than $2 billion worldwide. Whether you approve of 3D conversions or not, the good news is that the film was fully restored for the reissue and on the 10th of September you can choose between the 2D or 3D version, not to mention get your hands on a boatload of extras (sorry for the pun).
