Battlestar Galactica - best instore price?

Now I'm not usually one to buy BD's instore. However with BSG I might make an exception. Whenever I read a review of the UK set there also seem to be a lot of comments about receiving dented tins.

I would rather not take the route of returning a boxset multiple times in order to receive one that is undamaged. I was just wondering if anyone has yet seen the BGG tin instore at a reasonable price, say £120 or less?

PS I came across this video review, which I think is quite useful for anyone thinking about buying BSG set:

Mine was dented too, I would not go to the bother of returning it multiple times just for a few dents though as long as the discs were ok.

Are Amazon not packing the tins properly? According to that Utube review, Amazon UK managed to ship a tin all the way to the US without dents.

I would image that Amazon are shipping these sets, as they do most of their bulky boxsets, in cardboard packaging. Everyone else though seems to be shipping them in large Jiffy bags, Play.com included. As the BSG tin is only factory sealed it means there is a high probability of damage as a result. If someone had had foresight they would have housed the BSG tin inside a disposable cardboard housing.

Mine wasn't a few dents, however. The door wouldn't even close.

I'll upload pics in a minute that I took of it.

A jiffy bag.

They assured me the warehouse manager had sorted it, and she laughed saying "I know they were posted in Jiffy envelopes. I'm sorry for the problem."

You Tube is full of video's of people unpacking new purchases. To be honest though I found the video to be quite useful and informative and I'm glad the guy took the effort to do his little bit. It's much better to see the differences between the two sets than read about them.

Thanks for the pics Mullicious. Damn, there's never a Resurrection Ship around when you need one.

By the way you didn't say where you actually purchased your set from. I hope it wasn't Amazon?

Lovefilm. Hopefully these companies have learnt from the returns, apparently Lovefilm have, as the lady said the warehouse manager is aware of it now and It's sent in a box. Hah.

I got mine from amazon, took advantage of the free prime 1 month. It came in a very large cardboard box, surrounded by large air bubble packaging.

Mullicious, did you get any joy from Lovefilm. I was just about to place an order and thought I'd check in here for any bargains first. I'd like to use Lovefilm as there is a 10% discount code and quidco do a further 3% cash back so overall it reduces the price from around £110 to around £95 - a handy reduction at this time of year.

Lovefilm are full of bull, I am on my THIRD box with them now, having got it on a 10% off deal, which I have still not been able to better.

1st one came so badly damaged that I could hardly open the door, -arrived in a Jiffy bag!
Same crap from their returns department "warehouse is aware" that everybody else is getting, however I requested that the replacement to be shipped in a suitable box with infill packaging.

2nd box set arrives 4 weeks later after -they mislaid my returned package!!!!!!
Guess what, badly dented again, in the same type of jiffy bag despite their assurances, and this time a sodding DVD arrives instead of the Blu........

On the second return, they had the cheek to blame Royal mail for the condition of the stock I recieved, and were in no way responsible for shipping a metal fragile tin in effectively in a large envalope and one layer of bubble wrap! lol

As Lovefilm don't seem to care about how much stock they write off, in what manner they ship it, or what they actually ship to customers, I think I will just keep returning one after another until they realise where there profit margin is going and I get one fit for purpose!

I'm still waiting for my one replacement. They said they'll get stock in next week.

If it arrives dented, I shall just be returning it for a refund. Can't be faffed with messing around.

Here's my tale i bought a blu ray one off playtrade which stated 'tin noticeably damaged' but for £72.89 well i thought its considerable cheaper and the tin will get damaged anyway, upon delivery via UPS i was expecting it to be 'noticeably damaged' but to my surprise only 2 small dents on top and very surprising there was not more damage as playtrade person shipped in a 'grey plastic bag' no bubble wrap, no box etc... so all in all i got a blu ray version for £72.89 with only a couple of small dents

I think that overall, on this evidence, I will just have to pay the extra money and buy from Amazon.

I had 3, yes 3, sent by Zavvi. First two were sent in Jiffy bags and dented to hell. The thrid one never made it to my house. At the end of all that I just got a refund from Zavvi and bought a replacement from Amazon. It arrived in a very well packaged cardboard box with no dents at all. I'm now on Season 2 and loving it!

It's worth spending the extra and getting it from Amazon.

I have literally just received another BSG box set, just about to open it now and see the damage!

It has came in a cardboard box however.

Edit:

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnd.

It has came basically undamaged. The front of the case is slightly pushed in, but not dented at all, and looks perfectly fine, and there is a very slight dent on the right of the box, but not a prominent dent, certainly not enough for me to faff on and send it back again.

Happy I must say.

i bought my tin off ebay last week. £79.99 delivered, brand new and sealed. Not a single dent on the tin. The seller posted in a large box packed with bubble wrap.

Absolute bargain ! Up to £40 cheaper than online stores and guaranteed dent free

And he has sold umpteen of these so if your looking for one, check out ebay !!

FWIW I rented BG from Lovefilm for ~£1 per BD. That seemed the best for me as I doubt that I'd want to watch more than once.
